After surpassing Ethereum to become the second largest cryptocurrency, it appears that Ripple’s XRP is looking to increase its mass adoption. Recently, XRP confirmed that it will soon be supported on Abra, a platform that allows users to purchase traditional assets using digital currencies.

Earlier this week, Abra announced that its users can now buy shares of leading tech giants such as Facebook, Netflix, Google, and Amazon using crypto through the Abra app. Plans are also underway to introduce exchange-traded funds, commodities and indices, all of which will be purchasable using virtual currencies.

Speaking on the above, Bill Barhydt, the CEO of Abra, said that their goal is to develop a single app that offers a comprehensive investment solution for crypto traders. He added that the company will introduce more products in the near future as they attempt to democratize the financial services sector.

As expected, the announcement from Abra caused a frenzy in the crypto community. A Twitter user called XRP Nation (@xrp_nation) tweeted Barhydt, asking him whether Abra will support XRP. The response was affirmative, although Barhydt did not give a specific date when XRP will be integrated into the Abra platform. Currently, Abra supports the purchase of shares using Bitcoin.

XRP has been performing well lately, despite the overall performance of the crypto markets being poor. Data from CoinMarketCap shows that the coin gained 0.21% over the past 24 hours, with its market cap at $12 billion and value at $0.31. because Abra is available in over 155 countries, it is expected to boost the adoption and legitimacy of XRP significantly.

Besides Abra, Ripple has also added 11 new universities to its University Blockchain Research Initiative (UBRI). This will increase the number of institutions participating in UBRI to 29. UBRI is a research program that seeks to make improvements to the Ripple blockchain ecosystem.
