In light of the recent SegWit2x drama, the value of Bitcoin Cash has dramatically increased. Bitcoin Cash is a fork of the Bitcoin blockchain that occurred in 2017 in an attempt to solve the many issues that plague Bitcoin, such as delayed transaction times.
In order to solve these issues, Bitcoin Cash increases the size of blocks from one megabyte to eight, which allows more transactions to be processed faster. The Bitcoin Cash fork also eliminates Segregated Witness, a code proposal that is intended to free up more size in the block by removing specific parts of transaction data.
The overall goal of the Bitcoin Cash project is to provide users with a more effective, faster version of Bitcoin that can compete with the transaction volume offered by payment platforms such as Paypal or Visa. One of the major issues that Bitcoin Cash currently faces, however, is the usability it offers.
To date, many businesses around the world have begun to accept Bitcoin as a payment method. Major travel platform Expedia now accepts Bitcoin as a payment method, as does Microsoft and Overstock.com. Virgin Galactic, the first commercial spaceline, even makes it possible for customers to purchase space flights with Bitcoin, an unexpected science fiction reality.
Bitcoin Cash, however, has far lower acceptance rates or publicity. As a result, an alliance of Bitcoin Cash proponents have joined together to launch the Accept Bitcoin Cash Initiative, which operates with the goal of increasing awareness of Bitcoin Cash.
The members of the Accept Bitcoin Cash Initiative see Bitcoin Cash as a far more accurate expression of Bitcoin as a peer-to-peer electronic cash system as first proposed by Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, and as such as working to promote it around the world. The team behind the initiative have commented on their ultimate goal via their website:
“We began as a group of bitcoin cash enthusiasts who wanted to get involved in our spare time. We wanted to create a call-to-action for widespread Bitcoin Cash adoption by vendors. Along the way, we realized our goal is much broader and involves increasing overall awareness for end users as well as merchants. Our plan is to continue making improvements to achieve these goals. We encourage like-minded users to help us or create their own initiatives to further adoption.”
Self-described as a “community-curated list of sites and merchants that accept Bitcoin Cash”, the Accept Bitcoin Cash Initiative website provides a comprehensive list of service providers and merchants that accept BCC as a payment method.
On the Accept Bitcoin Cash Initiative website, it’s possible to view a list of merchants and service providers broken down by category, covering everything from entertainment and health to gaming and transport.
The Accept Bitcoin Cash Initiative even provides free-use image assets, Bitcoin Cash logos, POS signage, and more, all provided by Accept Bitcoin Cash Initiative community members. Moving forward, the Accept Bitcoin Cash Initiative aims to promote BCC in the crypto market and dramatically increase adoption rates.
