Akon’s Crypto-Powered Akon City Bags $6 Billion Contract
Singer Akon’s cryptocurrency themed city Senegal has bagged a $6 billion contract from KE International, a US-based consulting and engineering firm.
Akon City will “define a new paradigm in design and architecture for Africa,” said KE International.
The city will be built across 2000 acres on the ocean which will be co-developed alongside Senegal's government tourism organization SAPCO. Senegal President Macky Sall has earmarked it as a special tax zone to encourage investment.
Dubai-based Bakri & Associates Development Consultants will be overseeing the design of this futuristic city which will run exclusively on a cryptocurrency called AKON.
The city is planned to have parks, schools, universities, hotels, an industrial complex, and a stadium. Phase 1 of the development will see the construction of roads, housing, a school, hotels, a police station, a solar power plant, a waste facility, a Hamptons Hospital campus, and a Hamptons Mall which is expected to be finished by 2023.
Akon city is expected to be completed by 2030.
