AmaZix Creates Moderation Bots To Blacklist Crypto Scams On Telegram
A blockchain advisory company called AmaZix has recently decided to enable the access to its latest creation, a moderation bot that will be used on Telegram in order to stop the action of fake cryptocurrency groups and scams on the app.
With the help of the bot, the company has decided to create a list of Telegram users that should be banned. The list used information that was gathered for over the course of two years and it contains over 50,000 users.
The company used data from moderation groups in the network to discover the bad actors. They took information from over 140 groups concerning 730,000 users of the network. From these, around 54,500, which was 7.5% of them, were actually attempting to convince people into entering a scam related to cryptocurrencies.
According to the CEO of AmaZix, Jonas Karlberg, the criminals used several strategies. Many of them impersonated the administrators of the groups and sent direct messages to members in order to fool them. They also sent fake offers and giveaways often and posted several links that led to cloned sites of phishing attempts.
Karlberg also affirmed that the main idea of the service is to create a network that will protect the users. When the service is installed, a bot will be added to the group. This way, the bot will auto-ban anyone that posts malicious content and will ban the person from all the other groups, too, so the criminal won’t be able to post in any group.
This, he affirmed, would eventually help in the creation of a global blacklist that would be shared by all the groups using this technology.
Karlberg believes that the scammers move into any project that gets some traction, which is why this kind of software is so important. Telegram offers more anonymity to criminals, which may be based in any country, so they use it without any fear of reprisals.
Dejan Horvat, the Chief Operating Officer of the company, affirmed that the service only works in English so far but that many of its features are not dependent on language, so someone could use them independently on what language the chat group uses. If the criminal forward spam, for instance, the tools will be able to block it.
The only real feature in which the language is very important is when the bot is used to delete curse words, according to the COO.
Also, if any user believes that he was wrongly blacklisted by the program, he can always report it back to the team, who will investigate the situation properly.
The service is set to hour 24 hours a day and has no formal relationship with Telegram.
According to Karlberg, the team hopes to encourage more people to use the service in the future, as this will help them to catch more scammers and to create a better community.
