American Bitcoin Academy – Brian Sewell Cryptocurrency Trading?
American Bitcoin Academy, found online at AmericanBitcoinAcademy.com, is an online educational platform that promises to turn you into a professional bitcoin trader. Here’s our review.
What Is American Bitcoin Academy?
American Bitcoin Academy is an online cryptocurrency education platform that promises to “turn entrepreneurs into pro bitcoin traders.”
The website was apparently made by someone who trades bitcoin for a living. AmericanBitcoinAcademy.com is filled with images of the logos for reputable organizations – including Forbes and CNBC. It appears those logos were added to the website to convince people that American Bitcoin Academy has been featured by these media outlets. In reality, however, the website just features generic bitcoin quotes from these outlets. As far as we can tell, American Bitcoin Academy hasn’t been featured on any major media outlet.
How Does American Bitcoin Academy Work?
Basically, you take 5 courses through the website. All courses are available online.
Once you’ve completed these courses, you’re officially certified by the American Bitcoin Academy.
After you’ve achieved certification, the company encourages you to use their templates to start trading on the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges. At this point, you can begin to manage customers. American Bitcoin Academy will teach you “how to treat your customers like VIP so they will keep coming back.”
Ultimately, this all sounds good. However, information found online makes us skeptical about American Bitcoin Academy and how it works. One Reddit thread has one user claiming that the academy charges $14,000 USD for the five courses. Another claimed they charge $3900, and if you don’t become profitable after the initial $3900 investment, then you don’t owe them anything.
Ultimately, the website features limited information about American Bitcoin Academy and how it works. The Redditors in the thread mentioned above received their information by attending an online seminar or by calling the company directly.
The website features pricing information for the individual courses, which are priced between $37 and $99. However, the main purpose of the courses are to push you towards a boot camp.
That boot camp is called the “Bitcoin Trading Bootcamp”. It takes place in St. George, Utah and is scheduled for January 19 to 20, 2018. The boot camp is priced at $3995 (when paying upfront), or $14,000 (when financing the cost of the course over two years).
American Bitcoin Academy Pricing
The individual American Bitcoin Academy courses are priced between $37 and $99.
Meanwhile, the core boot camp is priced at $3,995, or $14,000 (!) if you opt for the company’s scammy financing program.
We can’t find any information to suggest that the boot camp is worth that much money. Meanwhile, the online courses seem to cover basic information you can learn online from any bitcoin website – including our own website.
American Bitcoin Academy Courses: What Will You Learn?
American Bitcoin Academy lists five core courses at the official website, including all of the following:
BC 101: The Bitcoin Transaction Course:
This course covers the basics of what bitcoin is and how the blockchain works. You’ll also learn how to use a bitcoin wallet, and why the technology behind bitcoin could change the future. Like most of the information on American Bitcoin Academy, you can find this information freely available online without paying $37 for an online course.
TR 101: Introduction To Bitcoin Trading:
This course introduces you to the basics of bitcoin trading, including the important tools used by professional traders and which topics to monitor online to predict future price movements.
TR 201: The Professional Bitcoin Trading Course:
This course claims to cover professional-grade bitcoin trading activities. In reality, it seems to be some type of investment scheme where you join a pool with other traders, then try to attract new customers to the fund.
TR 202: Professional Trading Bootcamp:
This is a $4,000 boot camp taking place in Utah in January 2018. The boot camp promises to teach you “tips and tricks from top traders, meet some of the largest bitcoin suppliers, learn how to protect from the latest scams, hear from American Bitcoin Academy’s legal team, [and] rub shoulders with other bitcoin traders.” What exactly is a “bitcoin supplier”? I have no idea.
If paying $4,000 for a 3 day retreat is too expensive for you, then American Bitcoin Academy has financing options available. You can pay $1,995 upfront today, then $500 a month for the next two years ($14,000 total).
Who’s Behind American Bitcoin Academy?
American Bitcoin Academy is led by a man named Brian Sewell (Founder and CEO). The official website describes Brian as “the thought leader in cryptocurrency education” and “a serial entrepreneur who has owned several companies.” Sewell is also apparently a former executive with World Savings & Loan. The website claims he’s the “host of the internationally acclaimed entrepreneurial radio broadcast, “The Brian Sewell Show”. We can’t find much information about that radio show online, but the BlogTalkRadio.com page for the show reveals he has 44 followers.
A peek at Brian’s LinkedIn page shows that he has been involved with various bitcoin projects since 2012. He lists himself as a “Bitcoin Evangalist” [sic] dating back to May 2012. We can’t find any independent sources proving that Brian was an executive with World Savings & Loan. However, he does appear to have been involved with bitcoin for several years, and it’s possible that he trades bitcoin for a daily income stream.
Sewell appears to be based in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The only other mentioned employee of the company is Tony Beatty, listed as Product Development Director.
American Bitcoin Academy Conclusion
American Bitcoin Academy has a number of red flags It doesn’t necessarily appear to be a scam. However, the website has little reason to believe you should pay the company $4,000 to $14,000 for a retreat in Utah – or even pay $99 for an online course. The website has limited information about the company’s courses or how it plans to teach you to make money through bitcoin trading. In fact, the entire course load seems designed to push you into some investment scheme where you attract customers with some “VIP experience.”
Ultimately, from the basic course information to the shoddily-designed website, we can’t find much information to suggest that American Bitcoin Academy is worth paying $14,000 for a 3 day conference.
