Autonomous Community of Aragon in Spain to Apply Blockchain Technology
The community of Aragon in Northern Spain will be applying blockchain technology in order to improve its public administration. The information has been released by Europa Press on September 17.
Aragon is one of the most important autonomous communities in the country, and it will be embracing blockchain technology as other regions and cities around Spain and Europe.
The Counsellor of Finance and Public administration in the regional government, Fernando Gimeno, signed a contract with a blockchain company and ecosystem known as Alastria. This network connects over 274 entities from different economic sectors with the intention to create blockchain tools compliant with European and Spanish regulations.
Gimeno explained that this transformative technology would show the world the real power it has as the future for public administration.
The counsellor thinks that blockchain would help increase transparency and efficiency in the local government. In Argentina, for example, a local decided to embrace blockchain technology so as to improve transparency.
According to Gimeno, this would help Aragon attract new business and investments, since efficiency would dramatically improve. Moreover, employees are already learning about the technology and how to block with it.
In Spain, the political party Podemos, has announced its intentions to regulate virtual currencies in the country. Favourable regulations were discussed in the past in the National Congress and supported by different parties such as Unidos Podemos, CIudadanos, PP, PSOE, Esquerra Republican, PNV and Compromís.
With this proposal, the country wants to use blockchain technology and support companies working in the field.
Moreover, the famous developer Amir Taaki, wants to establish an academy in Barcelona that would be related to blockchain and other technologies.
Spain is trying to become a cryptocurrency and blockchain hub in Europe and the world. There are many different companies working in the country and the nation is trying to push for regional regulations at the European level.
