Bahamas Blockcerts Launches as a Digital Blockchain Credential System

The Bahamas Has Developed A Blockchain Credential System

As a Bahamian Jobseeker, you will now be able to verify and also share your education certificates from anywhere. As a result, this should be able to reduce the current bureaucracy that exists in enhancing convenience. All this was made possible after the Commonwealth of Bahamas was able to be the very first country within the Caribbean region and Latin America that was able to implement the blockchain based system.

The system has been designed to be a nationwide system based on the blockchain technology which is referred to as Bahamas Blockcerts; this is all according to The Nassau Guardian.

With the use of the nationally accredited digital certificates, the government aims at enhancing how the national education qualifications are viewed, issued and verified. It will include various certificates from academic degrees, general certificates plus the diplomas issued.

In late June is when the very first digital certificates were issued in the Bahamas Blockcert, all this was made possible by the country’s NTA, National Training Agency. This was issued to about 78 participants this was done through an initiative that was designed to prepare the various trainees for the workforce.

The Collection Of Links For Digital Certificates

The participants who were involved in this initiative went ahead to store their portfolio in the Bahamas Blockcert, which is a mobile app. What this consists of is the collection of URLs, which have been uniquely identified for every digital certificate that an individual was able to earn.

The good news is, there is no need to have several paper certificates, all that the participant will need to do is to add the website links they have to their resume.

Additionally, the links can quickly be sent to the potential employers, who will be in a position to easily view and verify the digital certificates. But this is not all, as the NTA is planning on issuing the digital certificates for all the training courses they offer to the unemployed citizens, as well as, individuals who are going ahead to add on to their skills.

At the moment, NTA is the only body in the Bahamas that has gone ahead to issue these blockchain digital certificates. But they have plans on having 23 more national agencies added to the ongoing project. Some of the agencies you should look out for are Bahamas Technical and Vocation Institute, University of Bahamas, Department of Inland Revenue plus the National Insurance Board.

It Will Go Beyond The Educational Certificates

As the system grows, expect to see the Bahamas Blockcerts initiative expanding to other sectors in the market. It should be able to include business licenses, tax compliance and a number of other documents.

The Minister of labor, Dion Foulkes, went ahead to say that, they piloted this initiative with NTA. But the central vision behind the project is to have the Bahamas Blockcert system to be a core part of the governments National Blockchain Strategy; this is all according to the Nassau Guardian.

He went ahead to state that they are using the advanced technology to ensure the citizens are secure; thus, this should be able to improve land registry and other initiatives.

As it was reported by CNN, other similar initiatives are taking place around the globe; this is to ensure that there is a simplification in the verification of education certificates with the use of the blockchain technology.

With the use of the blockchain technology, it is being considered to be a more secure option that is efficient and cheaper compared to the traditional methods that have been used for verifying the documents.
