Bitcoin ATM Near London Train Station Starts Raining Money

  • London-based Bitcoin ATM shot out money at a local shopping center.
  • Representatives for Shitcoins Club stated that the “jackpotting” of the cash was intentional.

If you were at the London’s Bond Street shopping center and train station this week, you probably saw quite a sight – cash flowing freely from a Bitcoin ATM.

Reported by both The Next Web’s Hard Fork and TrustNodes, there’s already footage online to show a man trying to catch as much of the flying funds as possible in a duffel bag, though it fails to catch most of it.

Shitcoins Club CEO Says “Jackpotting” Was Intentional

The video of this bizarre circumstance was posted to Reddit yesterday, and it has not been made clear if this was simply a malfunction of the machine, or if it was due to a hacking on the platform. However, the creator of this machine – Shitcoins Club – said that the “jackpotting” happened intentionally. In fact, a representative told Hard Fork:

“Everything was going well during the transaction.”

The representative even pointed out that the machine has a bag near the ATM.

This particular machine has had a lot of attention for other actions as well. About a month ago, the ATM was featured in a picture with an unknown user accessing it. The reason for the suspicion around the image appears to be due to a DASH cryptocurrency private key that was shown on the screen, seeming to lead to a small theft.

Later on, the firm said that this strange activity was because the banknote acceptor had a coin maliciously jammed into it. The IT staff in charge of the machine had to work on the machine remotely, because the ATM is located in a building that can only be accessed physically on weekdays. The representative for the Shitcoins Club said that the private key that was made public was not actually a mistake, but part of the process in fixing the issue.

According to information from CoinATMRadar, Europe is presently home to about 60 Shitcoins Club machines, though about a third of the machines are centralized in Poland. As a result, Shitcoins Club is one of the top 15 manufacturers of cryptocurrency ATMs in the entire world.

Pushing that statistic even further, a spokesperson even said that they have the only ATMs in the UK that have the ability to perform major cash withdrawals. When the jamming incident happened, there was £30,000 ($38,000) stored in the Atm.

Regardless of the reason provided, there is no doubt that watching cash fly out of an ATM is bound to catch some attention. The fact that the mall officer still does his best to secure this bag just makes the video more entertaining. How would you have reacted?
