Bitcoin Developers Subpoenaed in Kleiman vs Wright Bitcoin Lawsuit over 300,000 BTC

The Kleiman vs Wright lawsuit continues! The case revolves around Craig Wright, who is being sued for 300,000 BTC by the Kleiman family and Ira Kleiman. The family believes that Wright is responsible for defrauding David Kleiman (brother of Ira), and manipulating the assets he had. Though Kleiman is now deceased, there are many who believe he is the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonym given to the creator of Bitcoin, and his estate is under the impression that he should receive the 1 million BTC that is allegedly locked in a trust until 2020.

Judge Beth Bloom would not allow Wright to dismiss the charges, and now Bitcoin developer Jeff Garzik has been tied in with the drama with a subpoena. The subpoena came from Kleiman’s counsel, requesting evidence that could potentially prove that Satoshi’s true identity was David Kleiman. Naturally, Garzik posted his inclusion in the lawsuit to Twitter.

Along with potential evidence for Kleiman’s connection with Satoshi, the subpoena asked to present any communications between Garzik and Wright, asking if Garzik communicated directly with Kleiman. The documents requested involve any documentation from David Kleiman, W&K Info Defense (Kleiman and Wright’s company), and any communications with Uyen Nguyen. Included in the request is communications between Satoshi and Garzik, if any, and information that is connected to either “GISCR Trust” or “Tulip Trust. The subpoena goes on, discussing documents related to Mt. Gox, communication with cryptographer Ian Grigg, and Liberty Reserve documents.

At this point, Wright’s council and himself have denied the allegations he faces, and the statute of frauds led to the barring of the oral partnership involving Wright and Kleiman. No written agreement of the collaboration was ever placed into existence, according to a 36-page response that Wright’s attorney issued for the charges. In the meantime, Wright has been publishing multiple tweets to describe how closely he was involved with the creation of Bitcoin.

The request to Garzik, which is 14 pages long, seems to ask absolutely anything that the developer could have come across in the years that he has been a Bitcoin developer or had any knowledge of the industry. It even brings up a Bloomberg article from long ago, where Garzik voices his “personal theory” that the true identity of Satoshi is, in fact, Dave Kleiman. He supports this theory in the article by mentioning that the coding style matched Kleiman, and that the way that the code was written coincides with a software engineer that is not “classically trained.”
