Bitcoin Is Making Enough Waves to Reach Mainstream Media, Has Cryptocurrency Finally Arrived?
- Bitcoin will be featured in the #DropGold campaign and an episode of 60 Minutes.
- Bitcoin is presently trading between $7,200 and $7,300.
There are many analysts and experts in the cryptocurrency industry that focus greatly on mainstream adoption in the financial market, among others.
However, in a report from NewsBTC, it appears that the industry is getting half of what they want, in that the mainstream media is now discussing the crypto market, with particular attention on Bitcoin.
Two main reasons arise that justify why Bitcoin is so important to news media websites. The first reason is due to the #DropGold campaign that is being launched by Grayscale, which is encouraging consumers to move into crypto investments, rather than sticking with fiat currency. Bitcoin is also a hot topic because of a new report with 60 Minutes on CBS News, which will be discussing Bitcoin as well.
The media appears to be primarily interested as a result of the upward swing that the industry has experienced lately. The crypto asset only recently started to fall tonight, reaching $7,278.77 at 11:42pm PST, despite being at almost $8,000 less than 24 hours ago. This marks a loss of almost 10%, which many altcoins have followed.
Greyscale has already announced the networks that will be featuring the campaign in a tweet on May 16th. The campaign shows bankers carrying around heavy bullions, which is a direct contrast with the younger individuals in the commercial that are much more carefree and light.
Considering that the NFL, National Geographic, and even Comedy Central are part of the group that is running the commercial, it is likely to see a lot of exposure.
Excited to share that the #DropGold TV spot begins airing nationally TODAY during commercial breaks on:
– AMC
– Comedy Central
– Fox Business
– Fox News
– FX
– IFC
– Nat Geo
– NFL
– Paramount

The 60 Minutes special will not air until Sunday night at 7:00pm EST/PST on CBS News. Charlie Shrem, an early investor of Bitcoin, posted about the episode, adding that Anderson Cooper will be presenting it.
It's gonna be a great show, I'm really excited and enjoyed filming this. Impressed that @andersoncooper really understands Bitcoin https://t.co/s9rJepmCHL

The special will feature Laszlo Hanyecz as a guest, who is more popularly known as the Bitcoin Pizza Guy for his purchase of a couple of pizzas for 10,000 BTC. The show will also include a visit to Iceland to visit a crypto asset mine.
The fact that cryptocurrency is being featured in a more positive light is such a refreshing change for the crypto industry.
Most news reports that mention Bitcoin in mainstream media is about the dark web or money laundering, among other negative reports. Hopefully, Cooper’s take on the market will provide a more optimistic view, attracting more investors.
