If you were to ask what the “real” Bitcoin is, most people would reply BTC, obviously. However, the answer is not as obvious as it seems. Bitcoin Cash supporters are convinced there are better currencies out there, including BCH. Now a tweet by @Bitcoin has rekindled this controversy.
The tweet by @Bitcoin clearly shows the lack of sensibility among some BCH supporters. While one can agree Bitcoin isn’t perfect, the same applies to Bitcoin Cash. Bitcoin has the appeal, market cap, and mining support. Bitcoin Cash has none of those factors, yet it is still successful in its own regard.
The tweet from @Vitcoin added their abstract from their whitepaper and said: “Bitcoin Cash is the oldest cryptocurrency. Its white paper was published in 2008 and the genesis block mined in January 2009. Bitcoin Core (BTC) is an experimental currency that does not have a white paper and has only operated under its current model for two years.”
Coincall, a portfolio tracking site for cryptocurrency investors, this week labeled Bitcoin Cash a “shitcoin” for “intentionally misleading newcomers to believe it’s the ‘real’ Bitcoin, for example by misusing bitcoin.com and the @bitcoin Twitter handle.” But even if those criticisms are accurate, they have nothing to do with whether or not Bitcoin Cash is actually faster, cheaper or easier to use than Bitcoin.
There is no denying that BTC has diverged from the path envisioned by Satoshi Nakamoto. This doesn’t legitimize the claims of BCH supporters for it to be the real bitcoin as BCH themselves do not fit in Satoshi's vision.
Realistically, how many people don't believe Bitcoin is Bitcoin? Even ardent Bitcoin Cash supporters do not believe deep down about the legitimacy of their clam believe the legitimacy of their claim, however, they maintain their position in what can be said to be a textbook example of wishful thinking.
