Bitcoiners Build ‘ROOM77’ POS Lightning Network System To Buy Beer With BTC In Berlin
On the first day of the month of September, a group of Bitcoin enthusiasts gathered together and implemented a fully functional POS Lightning Network for a bar based in Berlin called ROOM77. The network allowed customers to pay for their beers using Bitcoin.
A day after the occurrence of this event, Redditor ‘joecoin’ posted about this event on the cryptocurrency subreddit, aiding the news to spread very fast.
Reene Pickhard, a cryptocurrency fan, along with other crypto enthusiasts who created the network, went ahead and tweeted about it on their page the same day the event occurred.
BTC Enthusiast Tackle Queries On POS Lightning System Viability
Redditor Joecoin posted an update on 2nd September displaying his enthusiasm on Reddit and added that:
“Stuff just got real. Real as in applied in a real world business in a real world use case recklessly using real money. People opened channels to our node and paid their bill and other people did not open channels to us but their payments were successfully routed and arrived in literally microseconds as well anyway.”
He went on to declare the end of Bitcoin scaling debate, which has been ongoing, stating that:
“I am herewith declaring the end of the scaling debate. This problem is solved. We can now refocus on the actual challenges like fungibility and privacy in Bitcoin.”
Questions concerning the event flocked with another twitter user Frederikmetz asking how far it all worked. Topping up to his earlier query, this twitter user went ahead to inquire whether a channel was required to be open beforehand if he/she was to ever go buy a burger from ROOM77
Rene went ahead and responded to this query stating that:
“ROOM77 node has some high liquidity inbound channels so if you have some good outbound channels it works like with the @Stadicus3000 payment. For my cola I used a payment channel on @DZack23 ‘s node which he borrowed from our spark as a service node.”
What’s more, this enthusiast went ahead to confirm possession of video evidence and that he would be posting an article explaining the whole process with the video evidence in it.
