Bitcoin’s Lightning Payments are Now Available on Apple Smartwatches via New Bluewallet App
Owing to an all-new app released by Bluewallet this past Sunday, Apple Smartwatch users will now be able to send/receive lightning payments with the touch of a button.
From a technical standpoint, we can see that crypto enthusiasts can use the above-mentioned smartwatch app to generate a QR code, which can then be used by the payee/payer to facilitate a monetary tx in an easy, hassle free manner.
In this regard, it should also be pointed out that the folks over at Bluewallet recently tweeted a sneak peek of their new app to demonstrate its capabilities. However, as of today, the app is now available for everyone to download (from the official iTunes store) and use freely.
More On This Development
In a recent interview with Bluewallet UX engineer Nuno Coelho, he was asked about a number of things related to the app and how it will be upgraded as time goes on. On the subject, Coelho noted that while the app was fully functional right now, it was still in its experimental stages.
He then elaborated by saying:
“It’s a small experiment we’re doing to put wallets on the watch. The first releases will be simple, allowing you to receive lightning payments.”
Additionally, Nuno also added that his firm was currently in the process of testing its latest offering to see if it can be used to facilitate voluminous Bitcoin payments as well.
“Sometimes the convenience of just [receiving bitcoin] with two taps from your wrist can be a relevant user experience, specially on the go or if you need to be fast,”
Final Take
In closing out this piece, it should be stressed that this latest offering is highly experimental in nature and thus it might be ridden with a few bugs and glitches. However, in an interview with Coelho recently, he stated that he and his team were more than happy to receive feedback on the project so as to
“figure out how to build this stuff properly.”
At press time, Bluewallet’s development efforts are being helped by a team of three distinguished individuals who have been working within the domain of crypto/blockchain technology for quite some time now.
