Bitfinex News Post Flooded with Hacked Facebook Accounts, Despite Lacking in Views
On January 4th, a news post regarding Bitfinex was created and posted via TrustNodes. The title of the article is “Bitfinex Failed the Proof of Keys Test Says Trace Mayer,” which has had a substantially low number of views. However, despite not increasing the views on the page, there has been a growing number of comments that seem to be posted in favor of Bitfinex.
The post has received well over 100 comments at this point, and it would seem ordinary that this is even occurring in the first place, as there is no indication of anything malicious. It remained that way until one user, Tricia Wands, said that she was hacked, replying to a comment that appeared to be posted by her only five hours earlier.
Today, there seems to be a lot of excess activity on the post, which is strange when considering the circumstances. Though the post on Wands’s account would have been applied to the original article at 10:00am in London, it was in the middle of the night in Canada, where Wands lives.
TrustNodes, reporting on their own story, assumes that there are multiple other accounts that were likely hacked in the process, though there are many people that don’t even seem to be linked to crypto at all.
Social media has been used in many situations of hacking, but the use of simply commenting could point to another problem entirely.
