Bitmain Technologies announced recently that its consumer digital cryptocurrency wallet, available at BTC.com, has some brand new functionality – namely, the ability to allow wallet users to purchase Bitcoin, anywhere in the world, with debit cards or credit cards.
For now, these new features is exclusively available to the desktop version of the BTC.com wallet. However, Bitmain has said that there the new functionality will soon be rolled out to the mobile versions of their wallet, with the new functionality coming to both iOS and Android-based devices in the near future.
BTC.com wallet holders are subject to a few caveats if they’re interested in purchasing Bitcoin in this manner, as minimum threshold of $50 is required in order to process a purchase. Also, processing is far from instantaneous, with transactions taking anywhere from 48 to 72 hours for the cryptocurrency to become available in the BTC.com digital wallet.
Additionally, each purchase is also subject to a service fee that changes depending on the amount of Bitcoin being purchased. This service fee is calculated and then displayed at checkout to provide transparency for Bitcoin buyers.
The new feature set comes courtesy of a strategic partnership between Bitmain and Simplex, a fintech company that focuses on fraudless payment processing in the cryptocurrency space.
