Cryptocurrency trading platform BitMEX has announced the appointment of Alexander Hoptner as the new chief executive officer of 100x Group, the holding group for the owner and operator of BitMEX, HDR Global.
Interim CEO Vivien Khoo will relinquish her role as soon as Hoptner joins in January 2021. Hoptner will be reporting to 100x Group Chairman Dr. David Wong, who will also be joining the board of directors. Wong said,
“Alex joins us at a timely moment when the company is undergoing a transformational journey into our next stage of growth and development.”
Höptner was previously the CEO of Börse Stuttgart GmbH, under whose leadership the exchange became Germany's first regulated trading venue for cryptos. Hoptner said,
“The BitMEX platform forever changed the way we trade cryptocurrency and 100x Group will forever change the way we use modern financial services.”
According to him, this industry's future depends on a regulated trading environment that is liquid and fair for both retail and institutional investors. He added,
“I will ensure 100x Group and the BitMEX platform will continue to play a leading, constructive role in the global development of digital asset markets.”
