Porn Industry Considers Blockchain Technology

Blockchain tech is changing the way the world views the share of information. The technology was initially used for the distribution of financial technology. The first blockchain to hit the mainstream was created by the mysterious and enigmatic Satoshi Nakamoto for use in the cryptocurrency known as Bitcoin. But as the technology was developed further by thousands of startups all over the world, it was integrated into multiple industries and different sectors.

One surprising industry into which the blockchain might infiltrate is the pornography sector within the United States. Porn already constitutes a monster industry in the West, accounting for billions of dollars in revenue per year and employing tens of thousands of adult actors and actresses. The industry has massive sway and continues to be a moving force in the overall economy of the prosperous United States of America.

Blockchain technology and investments have often been common among individuals within the industry, with pornography actress Brenna Sparks coming out in support of some blockchain investment opportunities. She isn’t alone, either. Several notable names within the porn industry have thrown their weight behind some ICOs, likely in an effort to spark more profit for their own investments.

But it’s no longer just individual workers within the industry which have looked towards the blockchain for a plethora of opportunities. Two unique startups on the blockchain are looking to merge the porn industry with the blockchain, using the latter to revolutionize the storage of data and communication process of the former. While progress might take quite some time, interest in blockchain applications to the existing porn industry infrastructure continues to increase.

Porn And The Blockchain

The primary application of blockchain technology within the current infrastructure of the porn industry is for the sending of anonymous tips. Actresses who own their own channels and cam for money have long sought ways to secure anonymous donations. Particularly as an alternative to PayPal cash payments, which often result in the camgirl having her account taken away for suspicion of violating the terms and conditions of the online bank.

But one company is looking to integrate the technology in an entirely different way. Vice Industries wants to create its own global economy based on its utility token, the VIT (Vice Industry Token). The token would be used almost exclusively in the porn industry, and would be used as a way to pay for online pornographic goods and services without the constraints of international borders.

The system seeks to incentivize the creation and consumption of quality content by users and producers all over the world. In essence, the system being put in place would help to make it much easier for producers of pornographic content to be personally paid for their contributions to the marketplace of content and consumers.

True to the original nature of the blockchain, this application in the porn industry would give more power to the direct producers of the content which is typically monetized by a third party.
