Brave Web Browser, aka “Blockchain’s Killer App”, Surpasses 20 Million Downloads
The internet browser Brave is often regarded as the “blockchain’s killer app”. In fact, it may as well be. The Android version of Brave has been downloaded at least 20 million times so far, according to AppBrain.
Brave is a brand new way to access the internet. The company, which has the motto of “fixing the internet”, has been blocking advertising and refusing to track data like user activity and location. The main twist is that the company is focused on rewarding users and creators with their Basic Attention Token (BAT), which let people earn for their work or their attention to ads.
This kind of approach is getting more and more popular now as more people are angry with companies like Google and all the data that they away from their clients. This way, Brave could pose an important threat to browsers like Chrome because it is so much better.
Is Brave The Real Killer App?
20 million downloads is actually a lot. Maybe not enough to change the world for now but certainly a lot. It puts the Brave browser in the top 1% Android apps, for instance, which is a pretty big deal in a sea of different apps.
During its Initial Coin Offering (ICO), the Brave team was able to raise $36 million USD in seconds. This was during the crypto craze, mind you, but the numbers are impressive either way.
This can be the real killer app for the blockchain because it is not a solely crypto product. It is a mainstream product with blockchain and crypto features. The industry is slowly but surely embracing the world of crypto now and products like this one are the ones that will fare better because they can bridge the gap between the crypto world and the mainstream audiences.
How Does Brave Work?
The idea is that Brave is faster and cleaner. It uses a lot less CPU power from your computer, which makes it way faster than Chrome. The trick is that the user is protected from ads and from trackers and he gets a chance to actually be paid to see the ads.
If the user wants it, he can see notifications and click on them to see ads. These ads will be appropriate and not disruptive and they will be presented in a full page. This way, the person can get BAT tokens.
BAT Tokens Are Up 30% Because Of Brave’s Success
In fact, the success of the browser has been so big until now that its official crypto, BAT, is seeing its prices increasing a lot. The token is up 30% since February 25 and there are not a lot of tokens with such green numbers this year.
There is definitely a wave of positive feedback around Brave and its tokens, so it looks like the way for a new killer crypto app is paving up. Nobody is sure whether Brave will be known as the real killer app in the future, but nobody would be surprised if that happens.
