BTC Donations to Tor Project Network Will Be Moving Away From BitPay
Have you ever donated to Tor? The Tor network is an anonymous network and browser for people who want to visit the less user-friendly parts of the internet (the so-called Dark Web, actually). The group accepts donations and it looks like something is about to change there.
According to a recent tweet made by Sarah Stevenson, the fundraiser director of Tor, the company is moving away from BitPay for the moment and looking for other ways in which people can donate with cryptos. Among these ways was the Lightning Network, which is being very hyped this year.
We are close to launching methods other than BitPay for donating cryptocurrency. Send me a direct message about LN so I can research more.

Part of the hype comes from the Lightning Torch initiative, which has been going on for most of the year until now and has brought awareness to the technology and its decentralization. People like Anthony Pompliano, a prominent Bitcoin maximalist, are strong supporters of the movement.
Recently there was a debate about whether to pass the Lightning Torch to Tor or not, which prompted Sarah to tweet, as shown above. According to her, the organization is studying options at the moment and the LN is among them.
Up until now, the only way to donate Bitcoin to Tor was by using BitPay, a popular payment option. However, if the company decided to change how things work and to start accepting other kinds of payments, this will be great news as it will give people more options.
About The Bitcoin Lightning Network
The Bitcoin Lightning Network was launched last year. The main idea is to make the transactions off the main Bitcoin network, which can make them be quicker when the network is too clogged. However, the off-chain scaling solution has faced a lot of criticism since then.
Some of the main criticisms draw from the fact that the LN was launched with several bugs. A lot of them have been patched until now, but people were eagerly waiting for something that would solve their issues and they were sad to know that the scaling solution did not work as intended.
Because of this, the LN got a bad rep among some crypto circles. The situation is changing in 2019, though, as more people are seeing how much the LN has improved so far and its capacity is ever growing.
