Bullish Crypto News from Google as Search Engine Registers Bitcoin.Dev and Blockchain.Dev Domains
Google has recently rolled out its -dev top-level domain (TLD) and immediately after, the Bitcoin.dev domain is no longer available on the domain registry. Both the Bitcoin.dec and blockchain.dev domains have already been registered. The information was released by a Redditor a few hours ago.
In order to purchase these domains, a user had to invest $25,000 if the same entity purchased them. Each of the registries cost $12,500. At the moment, other addresses such as btc.dev or satoshi.dev have not yet been purchased. In general, crypto-related terms are very required and expensive to be purchased.
On February 19, Google announced in a blog post that they were launching the new TLD domains. These sites will be dedicated to technology and developers.
On the matter, Ben Fried, VP, CIO & Chief Domains Enthusiast commented about it:
“Registry is announcing .dev, a brand new top-level domain (TLD) that’s dedicated to developers and technology. We hope .dev will be a new home for you to build your communities, learn the latest tech and showcase your projects – all with a perfect domain name.”
Interested individuals and firms that registered their domains the day of the launch paid $12,500 in fees. Those doing it on January 20 would have to pay $3,500. By the end of February, the price for a .dev domain would be close to $20.
Google is trying to offer TLD domains for developers and coders alike. However, there were some critics of Google’s intention to launch these .dev domains. A few years ago, developers were using these domains for internal website testing protocols.
Google has also recently added support to the Bitcoin symbol on its keyboard on iOS. This shows that the giant technology company is paying closer attention to the cryptocurrency market.
