California Couple Forced to Part With Their Crypto Holdings Following a Drug Bust on Dark Web
- Jabari and Saudia Monson have been found guilty of running a drug racket via an online trading platform called ‘Dream Market’.
- They were reportedly selling a host of illegal substances including cocaine, cocaine base, methamphetamine, and marijuana.
As per an all-new filing issued by the DoJ (Department of Justice) a couple of days ago, a California-based couple has pleaded guilty to a number of nefarious activities related to the sale of illegal substances on the darkweb.
In regards to the matter, it bears mentioning that Jabari and Saudia Monson are now required to surrender an undisclosed sum of BTC and BCH that they were able to procure through various drug deals facilitated via an anonymized digital marketplace called ‘Dream Market’.
It is being alleged that the couple was able to amass a huge crypto stash between July 2018 and January 2019.
After Homeland Security caught wind of their operation, they called into effect the services of various govt agencies including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
Following the couple’s arrest, Jabari Monson pleaded guilty to a number of charges (including a conspiracy to distribute controlled substances). As things stand, Monson faces a prison sentence of upto 40 years as well as a fine of around $5 million.
Similarly, Saudia Monson too has pleaded guilty of violating the “Travel Act” as well as making use of the US Postal service to distribute controlled substances. Depending upon the sentencing, she will receive a prison term of upto 5 years as well as a $250,000 fine.
