What Is Cerebrum?
Cerebrum is a decentralized platform for crowdsourced machine learning. The platform aims to allow anyone to encrypt their data and host machine learning competitions using the collective intelligence of models created by the community. That community consists of leading machine learning experts from around the world.
Cerebrum also plans to promote machine learning competitions on open datasets to collect a library of the most optimal intelligent agents for solving particular goals. The end result is that Cerebrum will democratize the power of AI by providing customizable, intelligent agents to everyone in the world.

How Does Cerebrum Work?
Here’s the basic process used on Cerebrum:
- Hosts create machine learning competitions by uploading encrypted data and sending “Neurons” to Cerebrum
- Machine learning experts submit prediction model outputs for every competition
- Cerebrum combines predictions to create a metamodel for hosts, then compensates machine learning experts according to their contributions
Essentially, through this process, Cerebrum implements crowdsourced machine learning to change how torrents of data are collected and analyzed. The community of machine learning experts analyzes and collects this data. That community also builds uniquely designed models in exchange for compensation proportional to their contributions to the project.
What’s the difference between Cerebrum and existing crowdsourced machine learning platforms? Unlike other platforms, the incentives given to the community will lead to the development of an increasing number of shared models and data, with the end result being improved prediction modeling, better data privacy, better model privacy, and anonymity.

Cerebrum is built on the Ethereum blockchain. “Neurons” are the tokens used on the platform. Cerebrum also uses InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) to store files across the network.

How Do Cerebrum’s Neurons Work?
Cerebrum has an in-platform, blockchain-based currency called Neurons. After a competition, payouts in Neurons are executed by a smart contract on the public Ethereum blockchain. Neurons are ERC20 tokens.
There’s a total supply of 100 million Neurons. 60 million Neurons will be distributed in a crowdsale. 30 million will be set aside for funding operations of the Cerebrum team. The remaining 10 million will be used for a growth fund and bounty program.
The value of the token is based on the predictive power of Cerebrum’s machine learning models.
Every competition will have a prize in the form of Neurons. That prize is supplied by the host of the competition. Data scientists can participate in a competition by submitting a few Neurons as an entry cost along with their predictions. Those predictions and Neurons are sent to the Nucleus smart contract. Once the competition is complete, the prize will be proportionally distributed to scientists based on their performance, while the scientists’ entry fees will be delivered to the Dividend smart contract.
