Change.org Online Petition Platform Starts The Crypto Mining Screensaver For Funding Rewards
Change.org, an online petition platform, has introduced a screensaver that transforms idle computers into Bitcoin mining rigs. The website intends to use the money raised using this initiative to fund their foundation which goes by the same name.
The concept behind the establishment of The Mining Screensaver is rather simple, as it aims to pool the combined mining power of several computer systems to mine Bitcoin. The resultant Bitcoins will be allocated to various initiatives run by the Change.org Foundation.
Since it is not economically feasible to use a single computer to mine BTC, the website is hoping that as many users as possible will sign up to this program. Ideally, the screensaver will be installed in large-scale institutions, preferably offices. The reals challenge, however, lies in convincing computer owners to transform their machines into power-intensive cryptocurrency miners.
To know more about or even enroll in this program, individuals can visit The Mining Screensaver website. Besides a detailed elaboration of the working mechanism, users can find a download link for the screensaver on this site. Notably, the screensaver is exclusive to computers running on Microsoft’s Windows operating systems. Surprisingly, the site does not specify whether it will avail the Mac version of the software.
As mentioned earlier, change.org is an online petitions platform through which people can create petitions about any action they deem to be unjust. For instance, Liverpool fans recently created a petition claiming that Sergio Ramos' tackle on their star player Mohamed Salah during the Champions League final was intentional. Also, another petition sought to encourage supermarkets to reduce wastage by discarding unsold perishables at end of the day.
Besides the petitions website, Change.org also runs a foundation whose objective is to empower the masses across the globe through the establishment of social movements. The foundation hopes to realize their goals through online campaigns and educating their audience. According to their website, the Change.org Foundation intends to spur a positive social change by empowering the masses to raise their voices when subjected to inequality and injustice.
The Mining Screensaver is not the first initiative that uses the processing power of personal computer systems to mine digital currency. For a considerable time, UNICEF has been running a similar program known as Hopepage. However, unlike the Mining Screensaver, Hopepage mines Monero (XMR), primarily because its mining process is not as demanding as BTC’s, and can therefore smoothly operate on standard computers. Furthermore, Hopepage requires the user to navigate to the website, while the screensaver can be downloaded as a software.
