ChangeNow Secures At Least 500,000 XRP Tokens from GateHub Hacker, Aims to Get 90%+ Back
A crypto wallet that supports all major tokens such as BTC, ETH and XRP, GateHub, was recently hacked. This was a very prominent attack on the XRP community since 23 million tokens were stolen from the company, which is quite a large amount. 100 XRP Ledger wallets were affected during the attack.
Now a non-custodial wallet called ChangeNow released its own statement on the hack. According to this new report, the hack could have been the result of several “suspicious API calls”, so the company affirmed that customers should always protect their funds.
They also affirmed that they did not believe that GateHub had omission in facilitating this attack in any way, too. The numbers were actually very astonishing, as 103 wallets were hacked and a total of 18,473 accounts may have been affected by the hack.
Any affected client should move their funds away from the company immediately as they are working in order to solve these issues at hand.
ChangeNow Is Looking For The Funds
As soon as the company was notified on what was happening, ChangeNow started its own investigation. The company discovered that the hackers were using several exchanges in order to move the funds.
They tried to transfer 2.5 million XRP tokens via their exchanges and they were able to get 500,000 XRP tokens back. While it was deemed as an “impressive number”, the truth is that the company affirmed that they could have done more if they were faster in order to solve this issue.
ChangeNow also affirmed that the company hopes to avoid at least 90% of stolen funds be passed via their channels. In order to do it, they will improve their risk management department and create closer relationships with the community for the situation to be handled better next time.
All the funds that were recovered are currently frozen and stored. They will be sent back to GateHub in time, as the companies are cooperating together in order to revert as much damage as possible.
