Coinbase Advertises XRP (And USDC) with Free, Instant Cross-Border Asset Payments…Or Are They?

Coinbase has been launching new listings on their platform for quite some time, but their inclusion of XRP lately has been opening some new doors.

Publicized in a post from a user named “C3|Nik,” there is a link included in the tweet, which adds that Coinbase is advertising XRP as the asset that will make a way for cross-border transactions as well.

C3|Nik added that the Google cache on the website he included says that it has been online since at least March 23rd, though some people suggested that this is an April Fools’ Day joke.

However, Nik commented that it would not be a “wise decision” if they chose to prank the public with this. It could even be tied to market manipulation if that is the case.

There are a few factors that could still suggest that this publicity is not real. At this point, Coinbase and Brian Armstrong have not posted anything on their own Twitter threads, and news that is this big would likely have their stamp of approval and endorsement.

XRP Phoenix, a major supporter of XRP in the Twitter community. jumped in the conversation, bringing up the fact that they are “setting serious precedence,” if the post is actually true.

Coinbase has historically been “Anti XRP,” so the changing stances would be a big issue amongst Coinbase advocates.

Another user, Tom Mullins, tagged Coinbase and Nik in the post, saying that this type of information is not often restricted to just the international page. Coinbase maintains an updated blog on a regular basis.

Considering that this opportunity would benefit almost all users, this information would often be publicized in such a way.

So, the fact remains – Coinbase’s International page states that money can be sent across borders with either USDC or XRP, neither of which will impose a fee.

The most recent blog post from Coinbase regarding XRP was last month when the support was announced, but no further developments have taken place.

The only real way to see if these ideas are true is to look at the Coinbase and Armstrong Twitter posts. So far, Coinbase has not posted anything close to what Nik has, and neither has Armstrong. Still, the day is young.
