CoinPhone

The Coinphone is the first mobile phone with a built-in hardware wallet for cryptocurrencies. Find out how it works today in our review.

What Is The Coinphone?

The Coinphone is a mobile phone made by a Riga, Latvia-based team. The phone “changes the balance of power in the smartphones market”, according to the official website, by introducing new features like a built-in hardware wallet.

The phone was announced at the GSMA Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona. There are three types of Just5 Coinphones, including a Lite, Pro, and Pro Note version.

Just5 isn’t a brand new startup: the company has been manufacturing phones for 9 years. They’ve been awarded patents, a trademark, and design awards. The phones are produced at Mediatek and Foxconn’s facilities.

How Do Just5 Coinphones Work?

Just5 Coinphones function like ordinary smartphones – they just have a hardware wallet attached. That hardware wallet, like traditional crypto hardware wallets, can be accessed over Near Field Communication, or NFC.

Just5 added hardware wallets to phones because they believe hardware wallets will one day be as common on mobile phones as MP3 players. Just like every phone today comes with an MP3 player, the phones of the future might come with hardware wallets.

In any case, all Just5 Coinphone smartphones will have pre-installed Coinplace wallets that allow the users to safely store the most popular cryptocurrencies. You can access your cryptocurrency holdings through an integrated NFC system based on Google Pay and the Coinplace platform.

Coinplace is a multi-currency P2P platform for digital asset trading. It allows for trading of bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), and CPL tokens.

By May 2018, the company aims to launch five more cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, Ethereum Classic, Dash, and Tether), with thirteen additional altcoins added in the future.

Another advantage of Coinplace is that it’s easier than ever to register to start trading on cryptocurrency exchanges. Today, registering and verifying your identity at a cryptocurrency exchange can take several days – or even weeks. With Just5’s Coinphones, you can open an app in your smartphone to buy cryptocurrency at any time, then instantly transfer that currency to your mobile wallet.

If you want to spend your cryptocurrencies from your Just5 Coinphne, then you can do so at any time after verifying your identity. You can spend directly from your mobile phone, for example. Or, you can connect your smartphone to a PC to have it function as a traditional hardware wallet, spending your cryptocurrencies at various online websites.
