Two important announcements were made by Constellation this Monday. They declared the launch of their community portal, Orion, accompanied the distribution of the DAG tokens that had been created in a token generation event in May.
Constellation is a horizontally-scalable blockchain microservice operating system. Its serverless architecture ensures high transaction throughput, allowing for consumer grade distributed applications to be built on the system. Constellation uses a protocol called Proof-of-Meme to achieve consensus. This method incorporates a node’s historical participation into delegate selection, rewarding benevolent behavior. An intuitive user interface provides a frictionless on-ramp for non-technical users to develop distributed applications on Constellation.
Their token holders will be able to stake tokens to gain access to the incentivized community or developer tier of membership, with a free tier available to view the portal’s various channels and message boards. The portal became fully active on June 18, when Constellation's DAG tokens were also distributed. Constellation's permissioned testnet launches at the beginning of August, at which time token holders will need to stake DAG tokens to run a node and validate test transactions
Orion, which is a membership portal to the Constellation ecosystem, will serve as a platform where the Constellation team, developers, and community members can communicate, share resources, and contribute to the network within a token compensation model. The Orion portal is the entry point for users to become node-carrying members of this network. In other words, success in getting users to sign up and engage with the community represents the closest thing Constellation has to a proof of concept until the mainnet launches.
Wyatt Meldman-Floch, CTO of Constellation said: “The Constellation protocol aims to solve the primary challenge of scalability in the blockchain, providing a solution that is highly resource-efficient and exponentially scalable; Orion’s community and developer portal is a reflection of that vision. The Constellation testnet will ultimately be launched through Orion, providing a safe testing environment for core and future development on the network.”
The product launch by Constellation is an important sign of progress from a project with enormous ambitions and everything left to prove. Constellation aims to be a global network of community members that can use any device to transact, outsource work, and, most importantly, run consumer-grade decentralized apps (dApps).
