Crypto Token IFishYunYu (iFish) Accused Of Congesting The Ethereum’s Blockchain

Apparently, a small and unknown token called IFishYunYu has been congesting the entire Ethereum network, increasing Gas prices to over 100 Gwei, six times more than the normal value.

This situation happened in the past with the so called CryptoKitties game. The main difference here is that this token has no real value or purpose. The main intention behind this virtual currency is to directly congest the network. If this happens, users building applications on the Ethereum platform may decide to move to other blockchain networks, including the recently launched EOS.

Indeed, 40% of the Ethereum’s network has been used by this token contract.

Unfortunately, there is no information about who is behind this attack and behind the token, but some people is already saying that it is related to the EOS community. The code is just a copy of the ERC20 standard token that is known as IFishYunYu that has no features at all.

But it seems that this situation did not stop users to transact thousands of this token continuously. Indeed, the contract consumed between 40 to 50 ETH of Gas each hour.

Additionally, there is an address that shows that someone has created over 4.85 billion IFish coins 12 days ago. And there is no more information on the matter.

There is an address that seems to be providing all the ETH transaction fees needed. But it is curious to see that this address has an important number of EOS. The account receives an important number of EOS, sells them and distributes it to other smart contracts that perform circular trading.

It seems that someone with an important number of EOS tokens wants to congest the Ethereum blockchain. Is really this account trying to spam the Ethereum’s network to convince users to move to EOS or another blockchain platform? That shows that there are several problems to solve for blockchain platforms before they reach more and more users.
