Cryptocurrency Donations Could Lead the Charge For Notre Dame Cathedral’s Reconstruction
Notre Dame Cathedral Rebuilding Could Accept Cryptocurrency Donations
Do you want to donate crypto for Notre Dame Cathedral? Don't worry, soon that may become a possibility.
On Monday, France's twelfth-century cathedral was devastated by a wildfire which its cause is still unknown. The 850 years Notre-Dame cathedral is an absolute symbol of France and one of the country's most famous landmarks.
The aftermath of the fire has hence been deemed devastating, and many are left stumped on how to address the aftermath.
But as well as know the answer is money, and crypto assets might be considered.
Bringing Crypto To Religion
The French government under President Emmanuel Macron has launched a website for donations which has a connection to only four ratified organizations.
At the moment, cryptocurrency donation has not been accepted as an option. However, that seems to change soon as the minister for Digital Affairs in the country, Cedric O signaled that consideration for crypto donation is a possibility.
Cedric said that he is open to discussions with cryptocurrency platforms to allow donations with the digital currencies from across the globe.
Thus far over $1 billion donations for the reconstruction have already been received. The minister added that if crypto donations were to be included, then similar conditions would as well as apply as those for fiat currencies whereby the originations are not allowed to charge commissions, data collected for tax deductions and funds routed through any of the four approved organizations.
Crypto Community Rallying Already
The crypto community has responded, and it too wants to leave a stamp on the donations. In fact, some believe that it's time for the crypto world to prove a point that it can as well be used for good and not only the small percentage of criminal uses repeatedly cited by critics.
For instance, an international blockchain event which is powered by Cointelegram launched an own campaign to donate crypto. Also, the world's largest exchange Binance launched its crypto donation program in support of the reconstruction progress.
If cryptocurrency will be accepted (which looks most likely), then it will surely be a step forward for the industry in a bid for mass adoption. And who knows what that may mean to the crypto and fiat war.
