Cryptogene is a blockchain platform that seeks to provide blockchain solutions to Africa. Find out how it works today in our review.
What Is Cryptogene?
Cryptogene, found online at Cryptogene.co, is a blockchain technology company developing a multi-platform blockchain hub. The company’s platform is catered towards developing countries – beginning with countries across Africa. It’s all built on the Ethereum blockchain.
Cryptogene’s ICO launched on September 24, 2017. The pre-ICO took place earlier this year.
How Does Cryptogene Work?
Cryptogene aims to provide blockchain solutions targeted at African countries. Obviously, that’s a very broad goal – so what specific goals does the Cryptogene project hope to accomplish?
The company, in the words of the official website, plans to “create platforms for individuals and businesses willing to develop solutions based on blockchain technology or to explore its potential impact.”
Again, that’s still pretty generic. Overall, however, Cryptogene is seeking to introduce a variety of blockchain technologies to the developing world, with an initial focus on the African continent. That includes everything from educational initiatives – teaching Africans about the value of blockchain technology – to payment platforms and fundraising platforms built on the blockchain.
In the words of the Cryptogene whitepaper, the blockchain platform plans to create “a multi-platform hub that supports cross-border learning, usage, and development of blockchain tools for individual and organizational goals.” It plans to accomplish these goals using the following products and services.
Cryptogene Products, Services, and Blockchain Technologies
Cryptogene Ambassadorial Program
This program will build physical offline awareness of blockchain via summits, seminars, training programs, and user-oriented programs. Together, these services are called the “Cryptogene Ambassadorial Program”
Cryptogene-Learn, or DIGEST, plans to facilitate in-country knowledge sharing. Some of the biggest advantages of blockchain technology come in the way in which we share knowledge. However, reliable knowledge sharing can be difficult. That’s an issue that DIGEST seeks to solve by “eliminating bottlenecks with unnecessary bureaucracy and technicalities” and “bridging the gap by providing a robust platform built on the Cryptogene blockchain exemplified by a standard peer to peer system.” Overall, this will make it easier and faster to share ideas via the blockchain.
This is the Cryptogene-based payment platform catered towards Africa. Traditionally, African payment platforms have lagged behind the rest of the world. Banking infrastructure in Africa isn’t the same as the rest of the world, and that means many African businesses struggle to participate in the global economy. BlockMART seeks to solve that problem by allowing administrators, entrepreneurs, professionals, business owners, and retailers to accept cryptocurrencies as a form of payment using fast, secure blockchain processing tools.
Today, each African country has its own traditional currency. However, many African struggle to conduct cross-border transactions. This has hindered regional economic growth, and pushed Africans apart socio-economically instead of pushing them together. Cryptogene-Ex aims to solve that problem by allowing fiat currencies and digital assets to be exchanged across borders in a seamless way. The Cryptogene Token (CGT) will serve as the base currency for these exchanges.
Cryptogene-Talk is a social media forum designed to encourage the sharing of information. The forum “will be a platform for news integration and social interaction” while also acting as “a base for inviting members to organized social events.” It’s similar to the Nairaland or Bitcointalk forums, but it’s more tokenized.
Cryptogene-Build plans to help small business owners in Africa acquire startup capital and adequate training for building feasible business plans, helping them increase their chances of earning funding. Members can use the Silk platform to post a concept, and that concept can be further promoted and developed by community members via a brainstorming feature. Participating members then become stakeholders in the project after a proof of idea has been created and verified.
Users will interact with all of these technologies, products, and services via the Cryptogene platform, which revolves around the use of CGT tokens.
What Problems Does Cryptogene Seek To Solve?
Cryptogene is obviously an ambitious project targeted at multiple corners of the economy. Here are some of the problems the platform seeks to solve:
- Building online awareness of blockchain technology across Africa via Cryptogene-Learn (DIGEST) and Cryptogene-Talk (SPIEL)
- Using mass media channels like radio, newspaper, and television to expand public knowledge of blockchain technology
- Taking advantage of other information sharing methods, like in schools and other institutional bodies, to spread the value of blockchain technology
- Support African businesses and develop blockchain technology for businesses in the form of Cryptogene-Build (SILK), Cryptogene-Mart (BlockMART), Cryptogene-Ex (HAVENE), and Cryptogene-token (CGT).
The internet is obviously a powerful force for the dissemination of human knowledge. Unfortunately, most parts of Africa have missed out on the internet revolution. The Cryptogene whitepaper identifies problems like lack of reliable internet access, lack of high speed internet, lack of a reliable power supply, and other problems.
With the rise of blockchain technology, Africa risks falling further behind the rest of the world. That’s where Cryptogene sees an opportunity: they aim to help Africa take full advantage of the upcoming explosion of blockchain technology.
It’s fair to say Africa missed the boat on the online revolution and the power of the internet. With Cryptogene’s help, Africa might not miss out on the blockchain revolution.
The Cryptogene Token Sale
There’s a total supply of 50 million CGT tokens. Out of those tokens, 25 million will be sold during the ICO.
The company’s goal is to raise a maximum of $2.5 million USD, and a minimum of $1 million USD.
The pre-ICO started and completed at the end of August. The ICO, meanwhile, is scheduled to start on September 24 ,2017 and last for two months.
Of the remaining supply of tokens, 20% will be reserved for founders and core developers, 20% will be reserved for future stakeholders, and 10% will be reserved for marketing.
Cryptogene is using Waves to launch its token. The initial token price will be $0.05 (50% off) during the pre-ICO, rising to the standard price of $0.10.
Who’s Behind Cryptogene?
The team behind Cryptogene was formed in December 2016 as a Telegram community. Key members of the team include Bashir Aminu (Founder), AbdulHafiz Ahmed (Co-Founder), and Ruth Iselema (Director).
Cryptogene is a multi-faceted blockchain technology platform catered towards the developing world, with a particular focus on the continent of Africa. The platform includes several important modules – from education program to payment platforms for businesses – that were designed with the goal of allowing Africa to embrace blockchain technology.
