Dallas Mavericks NBA Basketball Team to Accept Bitcoin (BTC) As Payment Method Using BitPay

Sports editor, Jeff Eisenband, recently took to his Twitter account to disclose another NBA team to accept Bitcoin [BTC] as a medium of exchange.

This is none other than the Dallas Mavericks, making them the “2nd @NBA franchise to accept” its likes with Sacramento Kings being the first. Said endeavor also includes bitcoin payment service provider, BitPay, which will be used by fans to make transactions.

In response to this tweet, Twitter user, David Krepps expressed shock in hearing the news, as the team’s owner Mark Cuban has “been so vocal against cryptocurrencies lately.” However, this supposedly changed when the basketball team partnered with 5miles, CyberMiles’ strategic partner.

Earlier on in the 2018-19 NBA season, the duo’s partnership allowed for the basketball franchise to enter the crypto market. This in turn gave fans the opportunity to “purchase everything from tickets to merchandise, using a new blockchain-based e-commerce token: the CyberMiles Token (or CMT)” as per the latter’s blogpost.

At the time, Cuban was referenced saying:

“Implementing [blockchain technology] into a marketplace app allows us to sell to our fans more securely. And for those people who are committed to cryptocurrency […] we want to be able to allow people to transact business how they want, when they want, where they want.”

While the strategic partnership with 5miles has ended, it seems like Cuban’s rather positive stance towards cryptocurrencies haven’t been impacted. In a previous post by Coin Speaker, Cuban was referenced saying:

“I see gold and Bitcoin as being the same thing. Their value is based off of supply and demand.”

BitPay appears to be as ecstatic about the news, as the bitcoin payments firm has since congratulated the basketball team, as seen in the tweet below:
