The political commentator and The Rubin Shows host, Dave Rubin, recently declared that he will start accepting Bitcoin (BTC) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) on his website. Why Dave Rubin Chose To Abandon Patreon
According to Rubin, Carl Benjamin alias “Sargon of Akkad” was banned from Patreon. Benjamin is a far-right thinker who was banned from Patreon for allegedly using the N-word. It happened when he was interviewing a host on YouTube through a third party. Benjamin was also removed from the crowdfunding platform, owing to his political standpoint identity politics and feminism. Subsequently, Jordan Peterson, Dave Rubin, and Sam Harris also made up their minds to leave Patreon and explore other alternatives of accepting payments from their followers and fans.
Rubin is also a seasoned stand-up comedian. He is also the host and creator of The Rubin Report. This is a podcast and online interview show that focuses on current affairs and politics. The show is well known for its famous selection of debatable guests. It is also known for its critical way of addressing political issues.
On the contrary, in a recent video on the Rubin Report channel, Rubin distanced himself from the action taken against Carl Benjamin as the motivation behind his decision to abandon Patreon in favor of Bitcoin.
Patreon Justifies The Ban
According to Patreon, Twitter, Facebook, and other social media networks have been facing a lot of criticism from conservatives. They are criticized over the view that they suppress and excessively filter right-leaning content. Due to this, Patreon justified the ban as adhering to its one of its community guidelines; which is to prevent hate speech to one of its user’s external associations.
What The Crypto community Had To Say
The news of Dave’s move to Bitcoin was received well by the cryptocurrency community and many even offered him advice before the scheduled date of cutting off from Patreon that is set for January 15.
A controversial social media site known as Gab was notably among the first ones to respond to Dave’s request. They claim that they have already made a transfer of 0.0025 BTC to his address. Gab who consider themselves as a hub for online uncensored speech said that they made a decision to use the Square Cash App to manage transactions and obtain Bitcoin (BTC) funds.
Adoption Of Bitcoin
Bitcoins censorship-resistance nature is mainly for donations. Through sharing an address, a person can receive any amount of donations from across the world without going through any moderator.
Dave Rubin and Jordan Peterson are working together to establish their own platform where they can receive contributions from their followers. For this to happen successfully, they have to be dependent on third parties such as banks which are considered a risk.
