Digital Asset (DA) Bids Farewell to Another Employee, Gavin Wells, Head of Europe
Digital Asset has been losing employees rapidly over the last few months. Following reports of other executives leaving, the blockchain company has now had to watch another employee leave – Gavin Wells. Wells is still presently the head of Europe for Digital Asset, though his departure is scheduled for next month.
When Wells leaves, his work in his client-facing responsibilities will be taken over by Oliver Hugh-Jones, who is presently the head of business development for Europe. The changing roles were confirmed by a spokeswoman for Digital Assets on Thursday, though the departure was originally reported by a financial industry publication called Risk.
Speaking with Risk, Wells said,
“I joined Digital Asset to learn about the technology, but I stayed because of the people I met there.”
Unfortunately, Wells did not give any indication of what’s next for him. Before now, he had worked with LCH, a British clearinghouse, and Citigroup, a global bank.
Over a week ago, CIO and CTO of engineering for Digital Asset, James Powell, chose to leave the company, leaving his responsibilities to Shaul Kfir. Kfir was formerly the CTO of architecture, and he is a member of the founding team for Digital Asset.
Before Powell’s departure, CEO Blythe Masters stepped down from her executive roll in December, which shocked the enterprise blockchain industry at the time. Many people saw Masters as synonymous with the Digital Asset brand and considered her essential to the distribute ledger technology space as well, even though she was a veteran of Wall Street.
In the efforts to replace the Australian Stock Exchange’s CHESS clearing and settlement system, Digital Asset has established itself as the trendsetter for DLT upgrades and integration. Even though there is a long-term deadline that isn’t scheduled until 2021 with ASX, the platform confirmed that the loss of Masters wouldn’t change that timeline.
Digital Asset has been trying to increase its employees with new hires. They recently hired Zohar Hod as their new chief strategy officer around the time that Powell left. Hod works directly underneath Yuval Rooz, the co-founder, and chief operating officer.
