“Dr Doom” Economist Roubini To Sue BitMEX CEO Over Intentions Of Bringing Him A Bad Reputation
American economist, Nouriel Roubini is popularly known as Dr Doom for having predicted the 2008 financial crisis. The economist and professor at New York University’s Stern School of Business took part in a debate with BitMEX CEO, Arthur Hayes in Taiwan reports CCN.
Things only got worse from there, as Hayes has been accused of releasing a “doctored edited highlights video of the debate.” The reason for supposedly suing Hayes comes from Roubini’s claims that the former wants to damage his reputation. It was further argued that Hayes had been successful in doing so because he eliminated all cases made by Roubini.
On Friday, July 5, Roubini took to Twitter to express his distaste for the BitMEX CEO, who he calls, “the biggest a**hole, jerk, manipulator and criminal in the world […] This is a sick criminal behavior. Will not pass you coward.”
Roubini also tweeted out that Hayes had to “censor the video” because he had no chance in the debate. In addition, the economist believes that such moves were done so that Hayes does not look uneducated. However, to him said actions made the CEO look like a “total idiot”. This comment was made in reference to a previous comment by another Twitter user, who said, “Actually, the only kid here seems to be Arthur by not releasing the footage. Why not?”
Financial Post also reported on this feud, in which Roubini was quoted arguing that BitMEX does “insider trading, front-running, flouting AML/KYC regulations, charging high fees, taking advantage of unaccredited investors by offering them up to 100x leverage […].”
With all the bashing Roubini did regarding Hayes, the latter remained with composure. He has since responded to Roubini, in the following tweet,
“Don’t worry, our tapes will exposure your think grasps of economics and technology. After seeing these tapes, I would be surprised if you were allowed into any higher learning institution.”
