Prosecutors that were seeking to impose harsher sentences to a group of crypto scammers have seen their request rejected by a court. The fraudsters were able to steal funds to a Chinese businessman in an online investment proposal.

Court Rejects Harsher Measures On Crypto Scammers

During the last few years, there have been several cases related to Bitcoin and virtual currencies in which users lose their coins due to fraudsters and scammers. This was the case of the Chinese businessmen that lost around $250,000.

According to Hard Fork, the individuals participating from this scam come from India, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. These individuals have been charged with confinement and theft and would have to be an entire year in prison as per the Dubai Criminal Court. After a year in prison, they will have to be deported.

According to a recent report released to The National, the prosecutors wanted a harder sentence in order to secure a conviction against these individuals. The scammers used Facebook in order to offer cryptocurrencies for sale. After a meeting that the businessmen had with the scammers, accomplices pretended to be police officers and tied the men taking $250,000 in cash.

After being able to free himself, the police came to the place and were able to gather the necessary information to go behind the suspects. Police was also able to track the suspects using the number plate of their car and linking the data with the convicted individuals.
