Education Ecosystem is a decentralized online education platform that strives to reach the pinnacle of the online education industry. It also goes by the name LiveEdu and is focused on teaching students about the kinds of technology that are likely to become prevalent in the future.
The company’s website states that it wants to be “next generation next generation “next generation Lynda.com.” The entire platform runs on a cryptocurrency called LEDU. While Education Ecosystem has already had an ICO, LEDU coins are still available for purchase on a number of platforms.
LiveEdu is based in London but its website also lists offices in China, Korea, Japan, and Ukraine. However, there is almost no other information about the company of the people behind it on the Education Ecosystem website. There is a video at the top of the page featuring a man named Michael who is listed as the CEO. But there is no last name or any other information about him in the video.
A google search lets us know that Michael is actually Dr. Michael Garbade, the founder and CEO of LiveEdu. His LinkedIn profile tells us that he attended the University of Denver’s College of Business from 2004 to 2008 and then received his Ph.D. in 2011 in venture capital financing from Universität Kassel in Germany. He later founded LiveEdu in 2015.
As mentioned, LiveEdu is a learning ecosystem that strives to teach students about the kinds of technology fields that will dominate the future. There are eight fields specifically mentioned on the Education Ecosystem website:
- Artificial Intelligence
- Data Science
- VR & AR
- Game Development
The LiveEdu website makes a point to distinguish itself from other online education platforms. In the video, Dr. Garbade states that most platforms cater to beginners who have no base level of knowledge for whatever subject they are studying.
Education Ecosystem strives to be different by gearing their educational services toward people with either intermediate or expert level of understanding. Rather than learning about a new subject from an expert, LiveEdu users will watch their peers build real-life projects to further enhance their knowledge of a subject.
The Educational Ecosystem website states the company is currently building a YouTube channel that will be used for online education and professional development. All of the educational resources and files will also be available for download. EduLive also plans to on-up other online education platforms by offering live question and answer sessions with instructors and several other features detailed on their website that they claim most other platforms don’t offer.
LiveEdu’s vision is to have an internal ecosystem of learners, content creators, community moderators, project quality moderators, and API application developers. That ecosystem will operate based on the LEDU token. People can use tokens to pay for their subscription to projects, donate to creators, or request a Q&A with an instructor.
Project creators, meanwhile, will be rewarded with tokens based on how often their projects are viewed. Developers and moderators will also receive tokens for their efforts. Token holders will also have the ability to vote on what features and projects will be available in the future, giving power to people who are using the LiveEdu platform.
It’s through this ecosystem of learners and project creators that LiveEdu is ultimately hoping to partner with businesses and colleges to become the pre-eminent online platform for education and professional development.
As mentioned, Educational Ecosystem has already held its ICO. However, there is a supply of over 217 million LEDU tokens in circulation. They can be purchased on exchanges like Livecoin, Mercatox, and Exrates using either ETH or BTC. However, the LEDU cryptocurrency is an Ethereium based token. Right now, one LEDU token is being valued at $0.0140.
It’s worth noting that a certain percentage (not given on the LiveEdu website) of tokens used to buy educational services on the platform will be burned to help increase the value of the LEDU token. Also, 13% of the tokens created are being held in reserve. They will be given out as incentives for project creators over the next three years. During that span, Education Ecosystem is hoping to create at least 10,000 projects.
The Verdict On Education Ecosystem
If nothing else, Educational Ecosystem is ambitious in its goal to become the top online education platform in what has become a competitive field. They have also done a fine job of distinguishing themselves from the competition by focusing on the technology of the future and targeting those who already have a base level of knowledge on those subjects.
However, one has to wonder if there is a big enough market for what they are selling. Do people want to seek more training on a topic or will they hope to learn on the job? Is there enough benefit to seeking further education on a subject? Even one that is likely to be relevant for many years to come. This may not be a worthwhile endeavor for some people, especially if it means venturing into the cryptocurrency realm.
In addition to a few concerns about the long-term sustainability of LiveEdu, it’s a little disconcerting to find little information about the CEO and the company itself on its website, especially for an online education platform. Ultimately, there’s nothing wrong with buying into LEDU tokens and exploring LiveEdu if the idea is appealing to you. However, there is little reason to believe it’ll become the next big thing in online education.
