Enigma, a firm devoted to secure computation and decentralized privacy solutions, has revealed on Thursday, September 20, that it will be postponing the launch of the Discovery Protocol to a later date which has not been determined yet.

The original timeline suggested that its launch would take place on the Ethereum network by the end of the Q3, but this has been revisited due to several reasons. In particular, the team does not see the fixed date as either aligning with the current progress made, or interest of stakeholders for the time being.
The team also revealed that their main focus will revolve around the Enigma ecosystem, strengthening secret contracts, and “onboarding new launch partners between now and a MainNet launch.” Further arguments were made as to why a sudden push in road maps was necessary, which noted the following:
- Increasing the number of functionalities compared to the original plans
- Ensuring that Enigma’s timeline aligns with that of its partners
- Ensuring that everything is ready to go prior to launching
Most importantly, the team sees this step as taking responsibility in making sure that long term goals are prioritized over risks and short-term success.
News outlet, Coin Desk reached out to the team to get a better understanding of the surprise changes and Enigma’s head of Growth and Marketing, Tor Bair kindly responded. According to Bair, a delayed launch does not signify loss of track or confusion, but “an acceleration towards the primary mission,” which he sees as eventually resulting in “a healthier, larger ecosystem sooner.”
Bair also stated a similar argument that the Medium post revealed, which is in terms of preparedness. Speaking on behalf of Enigma, Bair disclosed that the firm has “no intention of shipping something without having immediate adoption,” adding that it is important to “minimize risks for projects” that will depend on their platform.
