EOS And Tron Take Over The DApp Space, Leaving Ethereum Trailing Behind Prior To Updates

Decentralized apps and games are some of the most enjoyable ways that blockchain technology has brought together users of all levels of familiarity. EOS is easily at the top of these dApps with the listing of PRA CandyBox on the website Dapp Radar. As far as competition goes, EOS and Tron are almost at an even playing level, maintaining the top dApps by users and activity. Unfortunately, Ethereum is not as lucky.

Overall, in the entire top 30 dApps presently available, EOS responsible for 13 of them. However, Ethereum only has one dApp on the list, even though their platform has 1,812 dApps available. EOS only has 323 dApps, which means that less than 0.001% of their apps are even used in this top spot compared to 4% of EOS’s. Furthermore, over half of the dApps developed by EOS daily (at least 161) are active, while about 10% of Ethereum’s dApps (181) see the same amount of activity, which is actually more apps but a smaller ratio.

In the available charts from dApp Radar, there were over 17,000 users active from December 2017 to February 2018 on the Ethereum dApps. While the numbers dropped down for a few months, they kept up with about 8,500 users without dropping any lower for a little longer. However, the lowest low came in July 2018 when the users dropped below 8,000. Considering that gaming is the most popular part of the ETH platform with 1,535 users, this is not good news. It is only made worse by the low numbers in gambling (1,535), exchange (800), and marketplace (162) users.

The TRON Foundation released a dApp report for their own platform was well, showing all of the projects that the company has planned, along with the achievements that they’ve recently made. In the report, the last week showed 14 new dApps, with 157 dApps existing. With their own substantial progress, they could be gearing up to overtake EOS as well, which presently holds the most weight on the dApp front.

Their report also stated,

“Daily transaction volume of Tron DApps in the recent 7 days reached 281 million TRX. Average DAU was 56,000 and average daily transaction number was around 890,000. The numbers went up compared to last week. Ever since Tron caught up with EOS in the DApp ecosystem race, we have not seen a new hit in the DApp market and the DApp growth has slowed down.”

Tron’s growth has also been perpetuated with the partnerships that they have established with multiple cryptocurrency firms, like Coincodex and the acquisition of BitTorrent.

The EOS blockchain recently welcomed the NEO network’s dApp called Effect, which is an AI-powered program. NEO launched it on their own blockchain in 2017, though the migration to EOS’s decentralized platform will not be for a little longer.

CTO of Effect.AI, Jesse Eisses, said,

“The current implementation of the blockchain can’t get to the promised transaction throughput and the smart contract compilers besides C# are still immature.”
