Erik Voorhees Praises ‘Bitcoin Jesus’ Roger Ver as Top Cryptocurrency Adoption Contributor
Erik Voorhees, Founder of ShapeShift talked with Naomi Brockwell on Youtube about the cryptocurrency space and the first 10 years of Bitcoins. Voorhees started talking about projects that failed or were not able to succeed during the first 10 years in the market.
During this decade, several companies were not able to keep their operations in the space, but many others were able to succeed and become very important players nowadays.
He mentioned Mt Gox and the Silk Road. The cryptocurrency exchange had several problems, according to him. When Mt Gox couldn’t continue operating and imploded, he said that it could be seen a mile away. About Silk Road, he said that it was a risky operation and that there are many other dar net markets at this point.
As mentioned before, several companies were able to succeed in the cryptocurrency world. One of them is Coinbase. The firm has been in the market for over 5 years and was able to raise $3 million dollars in a Series E funding with a valuation of $10 billion dollars. Other companies that became very important in the market are Xapo and Bitpay.
According to Voorhees, this is a very huge victory for capitalism. There are companies created at all times but just the best of them are able to continue their path in the space.
About it, he said:
“I think that’s a huge victory. I mean it is capitalism. There are many companies, most startups fail, most projects fail, but ultimately the ones that are put together will persist and get better. We have a whole ecosystem in a whole industry that is sprouted out nothing ten years ago.”
Furhtermore, he has also talked about Roger Ver, also known as Bitcoin Jesus. Ver is a controversial figure in the space that started supported Bitcoin at the very beginning and then he decided to support Bitcoin Cash (BCH) instead of the BTC network. For Voorhees, Ver was one of the main people who contributed the most for Bitcoin adoption.
Roger Ver has been working during the last years in order to promote Bitcoin Cash rather than Bitcoin. Bitcoin Cash has bigger blocks allowing for more transactions to be processed on chain and for fewer fees compared to Bitcoin.
Ver has been criticized by the Bitcoin and cryptocurrency community for supporting a hard fork that damaged Bitcoin and its positions in the market. Other important figures such as Craig Wright were also supporters of Bitcoin Cash.
