Ethercraft: Dungeon Crawling RPG Game On The Blockchain?
Ethercraft, found online at Ethercraft.io, is a decentralized RPG running on the Ethereum blockchain. Find out how it works today in our review.
What is Ethercraft?
Ethercraft is what would happen if you combined Minecraft with the Ethereum blockchain. The newly-launched roleplaying game is still under development, but a fully functional MVP recently appeared online. Today, users can access the core functions of the game while new features are gradually added.
According to a Medium post, Ethercraft wasn’t actually inspired by Minecraft. Instead, the developers were inspired by games like Final Fantasy Tactics, Rogue, Ultima, and ADOM. Nevertheless, the pixelated loot and design of the game can easily be compared to Minecraft, and the logo is virtually identical to Minecraft.
How Does Ethercraft Work?
The core objective of Ethercraft is to buy and craft items, then explore dungeons to gather loot. You can trade items with other users or sell items for real-world ETH.
Players equip their character with specially-crafted items to gain a competitive edge over other players. Then, players can journey into dungeons to assassinate enemies and plunder loot.
If you only want to make money from Ethercraft, then you can do that while bypassing all actual gameplay elements. You can focus only on attaining and selling items, for example. Ethercraft has a complex chain of raw materials that need to be crafted. The crafting system and item marketplace are completely separate from the dungeon exploration system.
Any gold pieces found in Ethercraft are linked to an ERC20 token (called XGP) on the Ethereum blockchain. These pieces can be used for in-game purchases like buying resources from the Ethercraft shop. You can also earn gold by completing challenges or fulfilling in-game objectives. You can eventually sell gold via a smart contract for a fixed rate of Ether.
As the value of Ether goes up, so too does the value of gold in Ethercraft.
Any money raised from in-game item sales is allocated to a fund linked to the smart contract. This is to ensure that the contract is always able to purchase gold. In other words, players will be able to exchange their XGP for ETH at any time using the Ethercraft smart contract.
Gold has one more function: it can be used to vote on proposals in Ethercraft. This is why the game is described as “decentralized”: gamers have a say in which features are changed or added to the game.
At launch, Ethercraft has 60 items available in its in-game store. Some items are available for free, while others cost a small amount of Ethereum. With the free items, you’ll still have to pay a small transaction fee. You’re also limited to only one item for each transaction.
You’ll notice that some items are tagged as “enchanted”. Weapons and trinkets can be enchanted, for example, which means they’re rarer and have higher value. The reason they have value is because they own the player a specific amount of Ether, later to be replaced with gold, with every subsequent sale.
If you get into Ethercraft today, then you’ll have a big advantage over later players. Many items are being given away for free. However, those items won’t be free in the future. As the popularity of the game rises, the value of each item in Ethercraft will also rise.
Features of Ethercraft
Ethercraft advertises all of the following features:
You can buy, sell, and trade items. There are three basic item types at launch, including free items, normal items, and enchanted items.
You can combine items according to a recipe, break items down into raw materials, build increasingly complex items from materials, and open loot crates for a chance at legendary items.
Playable Video Game:
The “playable” part of Ethercraft consists of a core loop where you equip the character and send him off to plunder dungeons and slay enemies. Each of these three elements (items, crafting, and the playable video game) are distinct components from one another. You roll a character, equip that character with select items, choose that character’s tactics, then watch as your character travels floor by floor through a dungeon.
Players will receive one loot crate free of charge at launch. Players can open loot crates to potentially receive rate and valuable loot.
In-game gold is called Gold Pieces, or XGP. It’s an ERC20 token built on the Ethereum blockchain. Gold will be the primary method of transaction in the Ethercraft game. It can be used as an intermediary for anything involving ETH transfer, for example. Ethercraft will also have a smart contract that will buy gold back from players at a fixed rate of ETH. In other words, you can sell XGP for real-world ETH.
Ethercraft is a decentralized, blockchain-based RPG launched on January 14. The game allows users to buy, sell, trade, and craft items. You can break items into raw materials, then craft them into higher-value items that can be sold on the in-game store. You equip your player with items, then send them into a playable video game where they plunder dungeons for loot and slay enemies.
