On Christmas Day, there were new strides in the eToro and XRP communities. eToro, which is a fintech brokerage company that is in charge of multiple types of assets, made an annoucement that XRP would finally be available on the eToro platform. This is a development that the users had seen coming for some time.
The company decided to try and elicit some participation from the XRP community with a promotion – no fees for wallet creation and wallet transfers. Elaborating in a blog post, eToro said,
“Current minimum transfer amount is 133 XRP. Coin transfer is available for Gold users and above in countries where the eToro Wallet is available (to check local availability, please refer to your app store).”
During this announcement, eToro took the time to note that these services would only be an option for users that have used a wire transfer to deposit their assets. Right now, the options are limited, but additional payment options should be added soon.
By choosing to use eToro, consumers get the benefit of working with a licensed platform, which maintains a healthy level of security. The features were detailed in the release from eToro, which also said,
“The first 25K users to open an XRP wallet will receive the wallet for free – and will not be required to pay the XRP wallet cost which is 45 XRP*Coin transfer is available for Gold users and above in countries where the wallet is available. The promotion will apply until 31.1.2019.”
Unfortunately, adding XRP has come with some consequences. Particularly, social media users have been attacking the way the eToro is launching and publicizing the addition. One member of the XRP community, Tiffany Hayden, commented,
“Social pressure is my only superpower and it didn’t work. @eToro doesn’t care, they don’t have your $XRP, and they are lying to you. Either find a way to remove yourself from their platform or accept the consequences. There is nothing I can do. I’m sorry. EToro is dead to me.”
Other members of the community used this moment to join the discussion too. Luke Roberts, a fan of XRP, addressed the platform, saying,
“Dear @eToro @eToroService – whilst we thank you for setting up an e-wallet, the #XRPcommunity bought real #XRP coins using our hard earned $ via debit/credit cards. We cannot withdraw our coins unless we send a wire payment, rendering this wallet & all initial offerings useless!!”
