Filecoin Blockchain Data Storage Network Sets Sights on Middle of 2019 For Release
Blockchain-Based Data Storage Network to Come From Filecoin, But Not Until 2019
Filecoin has been working on their roadmap lately, which they recently published for investors and the public to keep an eye one. The roadmap is still in the developing stages but shows where the company wants to go during 2019 and beyond.
Some of the major milestones they intend to pass include a release of demonstrations for their go-Filecoin protocol, implementing the GitHub repository, and more. However, the launch of the MainNet for Filecoin is planned to be launched, but only after the testing phase is complete.
Once the repositories are opened, the team will be bringing in interested developers to contribute as well. In the blog, the company wrote,
“This will be a major point of involvement for the community at large, and we strongly encourage the participation of developers interested in developing Filecoin or in building applications on it.”
During the first quarter of next year, the test network should be launched, though consumers will have to wait for an official annoucement before they know the specific date that it is planned for. The MainNet won’t be released until the second or third quarter of the same year.
However, the annoucement implies that the roadmap could easily change in the future, making the roadmap more of an “optimistic” goal, rather than anything permanent. The post continued, saying,
“The pros: a much clearer and transparent planning approach, easier coordination across the community, and excitement as milestones get closer. The cons: timelines will certainly have to change – some things may come sooner or later than initially anticipated.”
Recently, in the Filecoin ICO in 2017, the company managed to raise over $200 million in one of the most famous sales in the industry. Right now, the efforts of Filecoin are being supported by some major venture capitalists, including Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, and Union Square Ventures.
