Following Bitcoin Feature on CBS of Winklevoss Twins, Gemini Exchange Sees Uptick in Activity
- CBS’s Sunday Morning show aired an episode today that featured Bitcoin and the Winklevoss brothers.
- Bitcoin subsequently rose over $9,000 after the episode aired.
CBS, based in New York, managed to bring a ton of attention to Bitcoin recently in an exclusive feature that was aired on Sunday morning.
The feature, which involved an interview with the Winklevoss Twins, spoke about their involvement in the space, offering information about the Gemini exchange as well. Now, Gemini is seeing its own positive exposure, coinciding with Bitcoin’s rise above $9,000.
The segment is only about 8 minutes long, but it features in-depth information about the market in a way that mainstream outlets typically do not. During the episode of “Sunday Morning,” Tyler Winklevoss, Cameron Winklevoss, and Ben Mezrich sat down with contributors for a discussion on the market.
The way that the twins were involved with Facebook early on is discussed, along with the progress of Bitcoin. In fact, the anchor then made comments that he is not surprised by the fact that the “Winklevi” have stayed at the forefront of both social media and digital money.
CBS called Bitcoin “money that works like e-mail,” discussing simple concepts around Bitcoin, while the brothers discussed the potential for Bitcoin’s rise above the value of gold. The anchor for the episode discussed the upcoming cryptocurrency launch as well.
While there is no information right now about how many viewers saw the segment, NewBTC states that it is likely that the number is in the millions.
Some critics have already come out of the woodwork for the segment, even though other people in the industry have expressed that the episode presented a balanced view of the market. American HODL stated that the comments CBS expressed that Bitcoin is “slippery and incomprehensible” wasn’t a responsible comment to make, adding that the outlet appears to be trying to create “FUD.”
Posting to Twitter, American HODL added that the episode appeared unable to “comprehend” Bitcoin.
It almost looks like the CBS report could possibly have something to d with this report, as Bitcoin left the $8,800 price level behind, pushing past $9,000 instead. The Winklevoss Twins’ exchange – Gemini – noticed an impressive spike from their American users.
Cameron Winklevoss even noticed that their mobile app for exchange is nearly in the top 20 Finance applications with the Apple App Store.
The announcement of this progress comes at the same time as Square Cash reaches the top ranking in the App store. In fact, with all of this progress, both “Blockchain” and “Coinbase” have been trending searches for the marketplace.
Along with this episode of Sunday Morning, CBS also recently aired a 60 Minutes episode with Anderson Cooper as the host, discussing Bitcoin with many important people in the space. Some of the guests included Lael Brainard of the Federal Reserve, Neha Narula of Digital Currency Initiative, Marco Streng of Genesis Mining, the “Bitcoin Pizza Guy.” And Charlie Streng.
Presently, Bitcoin is trading at $9,145.64, rising by 2.67% in the last 24 hours.
