France Leads the Charge for Mainstream Crypto Adoption in Europe: BTC Donations for Notre-Dame in Order
Notre-Dame was burning orange and the cathedral's roof was already consumed by fire by the time the chaplain of the Paris Fire Department made his way inside the church. On Tuesday before Good Friday, people awoke to the horrifying sight of the destruction of 900 years of culture. And one can’t help but feel emotional about this.
Now to re-build the cathedral about $1 billion has been already collected by four organizations responsible for the restoration of the Roman Catholic church. And looks like the crypto community is also joining in this restoration.
Though a small amount has been collected so far at 0.23923701 BTC, at the time of writing, the crypto community has taken an active step towards this.
However, this is not all, with the things are going, France might get to see the mainstream adoption of Bitcoin as France’s Minister for Digital Affairs Cedric O says that he is open to discussing with cryptocurrency platforms for ways to allow donations in digital money to rebuild Notre-dame Cathedral, as reported by Bloomberg.
On Wednesday, the French government presented the www.rebatirnotredamedeparis.fr website to collect money to repair the gothic monument that caught fire on Monday, April 15 that has links to four approved organizations. The government website is designed for small donations from individuals but for now, there is no way to donate in Bitcoin or any other digital currency.
“We had a day to create that website,”
“But we are open to discussing with others. I think the more people we bring in, the more money we can raise.”

“I’m not sure every bitcoin player can do it but, anyway, we are open to the discussion,” said O. “People should be able to make donations through whatever means they want to use.”
He further said that the same conditions that apply to donations made in traditional currency meaning there must be no commissions, the money must find its way to the four approved organizations and the information must be collected for tax deductions, would apply to digital currency as well.
More than $920 million (800 million euros) have been already raised in the donation by various wealthy individuals and companies. The normal annual budget for restoring national monuments is about 300 million euros, said Culture Minister Franck Riester.
The cathedral will be rebuilt in five years said President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday night,
“We will rebuild the Notre-Dame cathedral even more beautiful than it was. I want that to be finalized in five years. We can do it.”
