Google Trends Reveals More Interest in Ripple Than Bitcoin, Is This the XRP/BTC Flippening?
There is a feature from Google called Google Trends that provides a lot of information about how people spend their time learning about cryptocurrency. Historically, Bitcoin has taken the lead in the searches, as far as the crypto industry. However, in the data collected last year, the phrase “how to buy Ripple” was searched for more times than the phrase “how to buy Bitcoin” by users in the United States.
The term “Bitcoin” on its own still came up with more searches than “XRP” or “Ripple” on its own, both around the world and locally in the US. Based on that data, it looks like the “flippening” that XRP fans believe will happen is going to take a little longer. Still, for the community, it looks like many investors believe that XRP is not too far away from becoming the leading digital asset, based on market capitalization alone. Reddit and Twitter are filled with these fans, who have repeatedly called out Bitcoin for its outdated technology.
In the eyes of XRP fans, BTC is just the old news of the crypto industry, especially when it is lined up against the competitors. Many of the XRP proponents believe that the utility alone that XRP offers is proof enough that the token will overtake BTC in the long run. However, there is still a long way to go before XRP can take the top spot, which is demonstrated by the fact of Google interest in the United States.
Preethi Kasireddy, a former engineer for Coinbase, spoke about the Google Trends results, saying that the phrase “how to buy Ripple has been much more frequently sought out, rather than the same question for Bitcoin last year. Other searches made the cut too, like “how to vote” and “how to register to vote.”
Google's 2018 top "How to" searches:
1) How to vote
2) How to register to vote
3) How to play Mega Millions
4) How to buy Ripple 🤔
5) How to turn off automatic updates
6) How to get the old Snapchat back
7) How to play Powerball
8) How to buy Bitcoin 🙃
9) How to screen record

However, there are a few issues with Kasireddy’s tweet, like the fact that the data collected is only based on Google users in the US. When the whole world is considered in this data, the phrase “how to buy Bitcoin” exceeds the same question for Ripple by sevenfold.
Live Bitcoin (BTC) Price:
1 BTC/USD =$47,923.9434 change ~ -5.88%
Live Ripple (XRP) Price:
1 XRP/USD =$0.2464 change ~ 2.46%
When considering these figures at its most basic level, it could look like the US finds XRP to be more popular amongst users, but that is not true. Even with all of the bank partnerships, good news, new listings, and trending as a topic, the XRP token of Ripple has been losing value against Bitcoin this year. On the first day of the year, it looked like 1 XRP was about 0.00009439 BTC. However, today, the same amount is worth 0.00007350 BTC.
