Hash Rush is an online game powered by hashrates. Find out how this unique game plans to work today in our review.
What Is Hash Rush?
Hash Rush, found online at HashRush.com, is an online game that revolves around hashrates and mining. The game is preparing for its pre-ICO on August 16, during which players can claim their mining colony first.
The Hash Rush project, or HR, aims to turn cryptocurrency mining into a strategic online game available through your browser.
The game involves players building their own mining colonies using Rush Coins (RC), an ERC-20 standard token, and then using those mining colonies to take part in cryptocurrency mining operations. All mining colonies are backed by real-time hash power.
Obviously, Hash Rush is a unique concept that we haven’t seen before in the cryptocurrency community. Let’s take a closer look at how HR plans to work.
How Does Hash Rush Work?
You start playing Hash Rush by setting up your mining colony. To setup your colony, you’ll need to purchase Rush Coins (RC), which are ERC20 standard tokens based on the Ethereum blockchain.
After setting up your mining colony (which is backed by real-time hash power), you compete in single and multiplayer missions for in-game bonuses. As you complete missions and receive bonuses, you can develop your colony into a more profitable and successful mining operation.
What’s the point of Hash Rush? Here are the goals of the game:
- Manage your mining colony
- Advance into neighboring territories
- “Transform your little colony into the envy of the solar system”
At the start of the game, players can choose to join three different factions. Each faction has their own unique look, playing style, and story-line. After choosing a faction, players are placed on a planet in the Hermeian Solar System (there are three sectors, and each faction has its own sector). From there, you can start building your mining colony.
We already have the names and specific artwork of those factions thanks to the Hash Rush whitepaper. In fact, the Senior Game Producer for Hash Rash worked on the original Witcher game. Artwork, faction information, and other details are all available through the whitepaper.
How Do Rush Coins (RC) Work?
The Hash Rush ecosystem is built around Rush Coins (RC). Rush Coins are Ethereum tokens based on ERC-20.
Uses for RC include:
- Building and upgrading new facilities
- Expanding and upgrading mining colonies
- Buying and upgrading more units
- Participating in faction missions and single player missions
- Discovering new minable cryptocurrencies
- Speeding up in-game activities
How do you get Rush Coins? Coins are distributed in-game by participating in faction goals or by completing single player missions. Players can also put processing power towards the HR mining pool, or exchange items and characters with other players in exchange for coins.
Of course, you can also purchase Rush Coins directly from exchanges, or buy them during the pre-ICO and ICO.
Hash Rush Features
Now that you know the basics of Hash Rush, here are some of the features of the game:
- Story-driven, lengthy tutorial segment
- Random natural disaster events that discourage users from leaving the game unsupervised
- Three different roles, including Miners (who mine the Crypto Crystals), Mining Engineers (who supervise the miners and make sure they’re working efficiently), and Explorers (who venture into unknown territories looking for Crypto Crystal sites)
- Randomly generated planets (each player gets their own planet)
- Players can work together within their faction to join planets together and create Transit Zones to facilitate trade
- Global Competitions, where the faction that mines the most Crypto Crystals gets rewarded with currency
- 3D isometric view (the same view used in most RTS games)
- Mini-map and fog of war feature to encourage exploration
Overall, Hash Rush is mainly focused on economic growth and securing the prosperity of your colonies. The developer has no plans for player versus player combat. Hash Rush has more of a player-versus-environment (PvE) mechanic, where players’ settlements can be threatened by local predators that stalk your miners, or natural phenomenas like earthquakes, floods, and firestorms. Each faction has its own natural disasters that they will need to prevent.
How Will Hash Rush Make Money?
All of the things listed above sound amazing. However, how does the developer of Hash Rush plan to make money?
The game will run on RC microtransactions. Players can spend and earn RC.
In October 2017, the developers also plan to introduce a “galaxy tax” of 2%. That tax is imposed on the mines. In other words, 2% of your mined cryptocurrency will go towards the development team.
The developers will also operate their own mining pool. That pool is available to players as well as outside miners who don’t play the game.
Interestingly, the developers plan to continue introducing new content free of charge over the years. They believe that new content will stimulate a healthy in-game economy, and lead to more profits than if they just charged players subscription fees or had premium content.
Who’s Behind Hash Rush?
Hash Rush is led by Kristaps Vaivods and Maris Ziedonis, both of whom work for ETHinvest and are responsible for maintaining the mining farm at Hash Rush’s facility in Riga, Latvia.
Meanwhile, game developers include Rafal Nowocien from the original Witcher series, who will be the Senior Game Producer for Hash Rush.
Hash Rush Conclusion
Hash Rush describes itself as “the first next-generation hash-powered browser game where players can earn cryptocurrencies like Ethereum.” It’s a unique concept that borrows ideas from MMOs and browser-based games. It gamifies the mining process and allows users to participate in real cryptocurrency mining.
Hash Rush’s ICO goes into a surprising amount of detail about the project – including details about the singleplayer storyline, the specific factions, and other information. It’s a fully-fledged gaming platform that is preparing to launch this fall.
The Hash Rush pre-ICO begins on August 16. To learn more about Hash Rush, read through the company’s whitepaper.
