Post Oak Motor Cars, a Houston area dealership is now the first Rolls-Royce dealer to accept bitcoin and bitcoin cash as payments for their vehicles.
“The rising of bitcoin sparked my interest,” said Tilman Fertitta, owner of Post Oak Motors. “Being a premier luxury car dealer, I always want to offer my customers the very best buying experience and this partnership will allow anyone around the world to purchase our vehicles faster and easier.”
Tilman Joseph Fertitta is an American billionaire businessman and television personality. He is the chairman, CEO, and sole owner of Landry's, Inc., one of the largest restaurant corporations in the U.S. He is also the owner of Houston Rockets.
Luxury car buyers can obtain Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Bugatti vehicles at Post Oak Motor Cars through BitPay, a Bitcoin processor founded in 2011 that has raised more than $70 million from investors.
Sonny Singh, a BitPay executive, said some buyers favor to make large purchases with Bitcoin because it is a simple way to make payments. Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency or digital cash, that can be transferred through peer-to-peer computer networks without banks.
Singh added, “This partnership is timely with the increasing popularity of ultra-luxury vehicles. Post Oak Motors has a great reputation for selling the finest cars and we are thrilled to be partnering with Tilman.”
Notwithstanding its volatility, Bitcoin has aroused the interest of global investors, including Fertitta. Earlier this year, Fertitta — the CEO of Landry's, star of CNBC's “Billion Dollar Buyer” and Houston Rockets owner — said he was pondering on the idea of accepting Bitcoin at his businesses, which include restaurants, hotels, casinos and entertainment venues.
Faritta has always been fascinated with forward-leaning technologies and has a soft corner for Bitcoin. Earlier, with an interview with Time, he said: “If I'm a betting man, I'm expecting [Bitcoin] is here to stay.”
