How to Gauge ‘Decentralized’ Blockchain Networks Who Are Still Prone to Censorship-Resistant
Tron, a widely popular blockchain platform, has been experiencing a high transaction volume and it seems that one of the main drivers is gambling dapps. One dapp, in particular, seems to be heading the traffic. A few of the most popular gambling dapps on the Tron network are Tronvegas, Tronbet, and Esobet, which each have 100,000 transactions and a high amount of onchain volume.
There are countries that are limiting access to gambling dapps. One such country is Japan and it seems that Tron is receptive to working with the Japanese government to prevent such applications from being accessible. As the Tron Foundation put it,
“Just because something can be stored onchain doesn’t mean it can be accessed.”
The censorship issue impacts the immutability and censorship resistance mechanisms of the blockchain. These are the very qualities that the technology is meant to possess, but here it seems that it just isn’t so. Further, there is no telling what may happen if other governments decide to block the applications as well. This at least shows that it is possible.
