HyperLedger Fabric Integrates With Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) For Running Smart Contracts

Hyperledger Fabric and the team behind it announced that the blockchain network is now capable of running smart contracts that were written for the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). In this way, there will be five available languages that will be capable of Fabric smart contracts.

In a press release uploaded on October 26, the Hyperledger consortium announced that the Hyperledger Fabric will not be able to support smart contracts written on the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM).

Hyperledger is one of the most important blockchain networks in the market. Additionally, it has participants such as IBM or Intel, among others. The project was launched by the Linux Foundation a few years ago. Using chaincode in Fabric’s lexicon, Hyperledger is able to perform different smart contracts.

About the new Ethereum Virtual Machine support, the company wrote:

“In the spirit of expanding choices, Hyperledger Fabric now supports Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) bytecode smart contracts. Contracts can now be written in languages such as Solidity or Vyper. Along with introducing a new smart contract runtime, Fabric also has a corresponding web3 provider which can be used to develop decentralized applications (DApps) using web3.js.”

In this way, developers and users will be able to port over Ethereum smart contracts into Fabric chanicode. Additionally, the team explained that the new feature is part of the 1.3 release and aims at enabling developers to migrate or create decentralized applications for a permission platform.

Before adding support to Solidity and Vyper, fabric allowed users to use three different programming languages: Go, Java and Javascript. Additionally, the team behind Hyperledger explained that they have a ‘spirit of expanding choices.’ In this way, Fabric is able to gain ground in many other sectors and be more versatile.

Ethereum developers have different tools such as IDEs and many others. With this implementation, developers will be able to improve Hyperledger Fabric and make these tools available in this network.
