Immutable Receives $15 Million Investment Round Led by Naspers
Australian based Company Immutable is at the front of the rising trend of blockchain based video games and has been rewarded for being on the bleeding edge of technology with their latest investment round clocking in at $15 million.
This investment round was led by giants like Naspers Ventures, Galaxy Digital EOS VC Fund and Apex Capital Partners. Immutable plans on using the bulk of these funds to further improve their flagship game, Gods Unchained.
The Game of Tomorrow
Last year, Gods Unchained was rated the highest grossing game within the blockchain market, and it’s easy to see why. The game allows players to create digital assets with a clear, set value. Players are allowed to buy, sell and trade these items amongst each other with said items having a set, the immutable value attached to them.
It may seem simple enough, but the system allows for rare items in this pioneering card game to gain massive value among the players. This creates a decentralized economy purely within the confines of the game, and it shows within the company’s profits.
With only a meager 13 000 players and a hefty $2.4 million seed round investment, Immutable managed to earn over $4.5 million in revenue. With this new, more than six time increased, investment, they plan to push that player count up to one million, allowing more transactions and, ultimately, more money.
The sheer market value of this game could also be shown by the simple fact that a rare card within the game was sold for 137.8 Ether or $62 000 at the time of the auction.
The game is constantly being improved upon, with Immutable now asking for an account along with your Ethereum wallet to help acclimate a new playerbase to the way Gods Unchained works by giving them something more familiar.
Immutable Leading the Charge
Immutable, formerly Fuel Games, is a blockchain gaming company based in Australia. Among its staff stands Chriss Clay, a man who helped in a game called Magic the Gathering: Arena. While continuing to develop Gods Unchained, Immutable is now going to develop the Immutable Platform: A place where other developers can create video game assets with real world value. The company uses the Ethereum blockchain as its base to ensure that there is a definite, real world value to all of their assets.
The Competition, New and Old
Immutable may be the biggest fish in the Blockchain Gaming pond, but even now, as this article is written, companies invest in their own iteration of this powerful new concept. The Worldwide Asset eXchange announced on the 17th of September that they are releasing their game by the name of Prospecters on the WAX blockchain.
Even outside of the Blockchain industry, EA, one of the giants in the conventional gaming industry, is taking notice. A simple tweet from their account referencing their own character, Crypto, in the Battle Royal game Apex, may lead to the giant dipping their fingers in this new, fresh pie.
Even old dogs in this ring, games like Cryptokitties, are still in the game. Dapper Labs, the group that established the ERC-720 that caused the boom in NFTs, have received a new round of investments clocking in at $11 million.
It’s only a matter of time before all of this takes over the mainstream gaming community.
